What you’ll be doing...

You will be a key member of the Wireless Strategy team, supporting strategy, planning, and business development, responsible for participating in cross-functional teams through the process of building a vision and recommendations on key strategic decisions. While collaborating across wireless business lines, you will focus on the Wireless IT strategy. Verizon operates in multiple segments—wireless and wireline connectivity, media and IoT/telematics—and as such, you will be expected to be knowledgeable about the entire value chains and/or technology stacks, competitive landscape and business value creation opportunities.

While the strategy team is responsible for delivering a 3-5 year strategic vision and roadmap, the content will come from other areas of the business. As such, members of the team are tasked with aligning the IT and marketing strategies into one integrated plan through the annual strategy planning process. Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with IT and marketing teams in development of 3 year strategic vision and roadmap for Verizon Wireless.

  • Partnering with financial planning, including budgeting and capital allocation.

  • Facilitating ideation sessions and helping product / brand teams understand the technology opportunities enabled by developments in IT.

  • Managing any additional work needed to refine solution hypotheses.

  • Serving as an IT expert to the wireless team, and to a lesser extent the marketing expert to the IT teams, to help capture all internal innovation projects and facilitate the rapid sharing of best practices.

  • Serving as the critical resource and subject matter expert in the discovery, evaluation and selection of innovative technologies.

  • Managing the production of executive communication deliverables that may require collaboration across multiple business units.

  • Modeling the Verizon Credo in all activities, adhering to highest level of ethics.

The position requires an in-depth knowledge of wireless IT assets, especially a technical understanding of the full BSS stack, interfaces to the OSS, Artificial Intelligence, and case management. The candidate will need to understand the trends related to these technologies, and be able to translate them into future opportunities for services to be explored together with the marketing organization. Moreover, the candidate should understand how IT projects are implemented in support of middle / long term strategic initiatives and how to assure their success in a complex and continuously changing environment.

The successful candidate should have sound business acumen, breadth of quantitative and analytical skills, and excellent communication skills. They will have a demonstrable track record of achieving results, and deep experience in collaborating with a diverse set of stakeholders to get results across multiple groups and disciplines.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Project management experience.

Even better if you have:

  • Master’s degree – more impressive if you have an MBA.
  • Experience as a consultant in IT environments.
  • Demonstrated competency in strategic thinking and can analyze data to make appropriate process/business decisions/recommendations and shape business strategy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to visualize strategic recommendations and experience creating and presenting presentations.
  • Solid quantitative and analytical skills, including robust financial modeling skills and the ability to perform and review quantitative analysis with relative autonomy.
  • Technical understanding of telco IT technologies, including the full BSS stack, OSS interfaces, Artificial Intelligence and case management; their challenges and emerging architecture needs.
  • Good understanding of emerging technology trends in the areas of personalization, security, privacy, Artificial Intelligence, block chain, edge computing, and cloud computing.
  • Strong self-initiative – ability to drive clarity in key areas while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage a changing environment with many stakeholders.
  • Strong sense of curiosity and desire to build relationships across a large and diverse organization.
  • Intellectual and analytical curiosity – initiative to dig into the ‘why’ of various data and research.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills including PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Track record of handling extremely confidential information appropriately.
