What you’ll be doing...

The Director of Consumer Segment Marketing will be responsible for defining end-to-end value propositions for Verizon Wireless to drive market differentiation for acquisition and revenue growth purposes. This high-impact executive role will center on emerging and micro segments, including Hispanic, LGBTQ, joint solutions with Verizon Fios, gamers, etc, evaluating opportunities for Verizon and creating solutions to meet those needs across pricing structures, product feature inclusions, 3rd party partner solutions, distribution strategies, market positioning, content, customer care plans, and more. The position will play a key role in the team that defines how Verizon Wireless will continue to lead in the market and drive greater brand affinity and customer lifetime value.

The ideal candidate is a business marketing leader that can drive overall marketing strategy and has strong business acumen for pricing and financial modeling to grow profitable segment share, and should have a track record as an accomplished strategist with a focus on new service/experience creation. The Director will be a thought leader on segmentation approaches, but will also work cooperatively across the business to implement programs that maximize value of the segments.

Success in this role will require successful coordination and leadership across teams within all of Verizon, including User Experience Design, Marketing Communications, Operations, Finance, IT, Network and other stakeholders. Importantly, the Director of Segment Marketing will also build, mentor and manage a high-performing segment marketing team.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead development of distinct value propositions and/or marketing strategies based on emerging & micro-segment needs to breakthrough the US wireless industry commoditization. The objective is to improve under-served segment penetration, improve revenue growth and deliver improved lifetime value.

  • Combine marketing thought leadership and an understanding of our capabilities and objectives to support growth targets across Verizon. This will require a blend of financial acumen, strategic analysis, influence management and execution skills to turn data points into actionable plans.

  • Work with consumer insights, analytics, competitive teams, key corporate and divisional stakeholders on both primary and secondary research to clearly highlight opportunities and challenges within the segment. Will also lead global benchmarking for micro-segment solutions.

  • Define targeted value prop solutions and business case development for market and revenue potential.

  • Identify partner solutions and manage business development for content or feature inclusions.

  • Lead overall market positioning and operational strategy for launching new value props or evolving current market solutions through Verizon operational delivery chain.

  • Own marketing briefing for agency creative development for media campaigns, retail merchandising and digital/social media presence.

  • Develop 6-quarter roadmaps for value proposition launch and modifications to inform integrated marketing plans for the firm.

  • Improve ROI from segment marketing activities by defining quantitative metrics to measure and optimize all areas of the function.

  • Proactively identify cultural movements that can be authentically incorporated into Verizon’s brand proposition.

What we’re looking for...

  • Bachelor’s degree, MBA and/or technical degree highly desired.

  • 10+ years of experience in complex portfolio management highly desired

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills and will convey a sense of poise and confidence in both formal and informal settings with senior executives, peers and business partners.

  • Manage ambiguity with ease; will make decisions with speed and accuracy; and will champion change in a passionate, convincing manner that elicits broad support.

  • Deep experience developing and executing segment-based strategies to achieve customer growth and accomplish strategic objectives, ideally in a subscription-based business.

  • Ability to drive change and performance in a matrixed, consensus-based organization where successful collaboration and communication are required at all levels.

  • Demonstrated success in managing a complex workload with multiple priorities and tight deadlines with a focus on measuring results and improving performance.

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and thrive under pressure.

  • Ability to drive results at all levels, regardless of reporting structures.
