What you’ll be doing...

The Verizon Priority Services Principle Engineer – Lifecycle Architecture & Engineering is the chief product architect and is responsible for developing and analyzing wireless communications capabilities, translating customer business needs into technical solutions through application of engineering and technical expertise. This position requires a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in wireless network access and core technologies (RAN, IMS, EPC) architecture and component functionality with the necessary seniority, experience, and expertise to address all contractual requirements for delivery of priority services across the Verizon Wireless / Wireline network(s) in support of Presidential and other Agency emergency communications.

  • The Priority Services Engineer will have an advanced knowledge and diverse skills in wireless technologies and multiple vendor solutions to include design and architecture of various platforms environments. The Priority Services Engineer will:
  • Apply practical skills and experience across many application and infrastructure products, technologies, and services.
  • Develop comprehensive solutions using switching, wireless, and application services. High level responsibilities include leading the design and integration of networking solutions, architecture roadmap development, and deployment of network solutions.
  • Establish, implement, and enforce appropriate industry standards in the creation and implementation of wireless solutions.
  • Work closely with Product Development, Engineering, IT, Delivery, Support and third party vendors to deliver timely solutions.
  • Lead technical engagements with customer, vendors and internal technology teams to promote the use of and specific technologies in order to build new opportunities and business relationships.
  • Mediate opposing viewpoints and negotiate equitable solutions to ensure successful and stable outcomes.
  • Define Priority Services architectural roadmap for business need.
  • Maintain a baseline of industry knowledge to advice on technical trends and techniques for the development of solution designs.
  • Support standard and custom product development initiatives for wireless solutions.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designs, documents, analyzes, and commissions Priority Services for voice, data, and video services, and ensuring systems support specific customer requirements across different manufacturers, service providers and users.
  • Works closely with cross functional technical teams from wireline (local & LD), wireless organizations, and external vendors to accomplish mission requirements while building & maintaining positive relationships with government agency senior-level management.
  • Manages engineering project proposals to define goals, identify scope, and ascertain cost of equipment, parts and services.
  • Evaluates new products and services ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, policies and procedures in the provision of Priority Services.
  • Prepares and interprets technical specifications and assess regulatory impact for Priority Services.
  • Monitors Priority Services to assess need for updates, upgrades, enhancements, preventive maintenance and new systems.
  • Assesses performance levels of system hardware and software to project future needs, and developing short- and long-terms plans for updating equipment, adding capabilities, enhancing existing systems.
  • Determines integrated hardware and software architecture solutions that meet performance, usability, scalability, reliability, and security needs.
  • Researches and recommends technology to improve the current systems.

What we’re looking for...

You need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or technical discipline with four or more years of related experience.
  • Six or more years of experience with wireless network technology, architecture and design disciplines for wirelessvoice, data, orvideo networks
  • Six or more years of wireless technologies such as CDMA, VoLTE, LTE, EVDO
  • Six or more years of IP technologies such as SIP, MPLS, BGP, and QoS.
  • Six or more years of Internet Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network elements and their interactions within an LTE packet core
  • Strong understanding of wireless technology and industry protocols such as SIP, H.248, Diameter.
  • Experience managing multiple projects utilizing project management processes.
  • Must be able to obtain & maintain aU.S. Government security clearance

Even better if you have:

  • Ten or more years of experience with wireless network technology, architecture and design disciplines for wirelessvoice, data, or video networks
  • Master’s degree in Engineering or technical discipline
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification a plus
  • Ability to design solutions and manage projects to deliver customer commitments.
  • Ability to gather, document, and present specific customer requirements and articulate technical designs and solutions.
  • Ability to develop architecture roadmap and influence standards design.
  • Exceptional documentation skills that clearly articulate technical designs, issues and constraints, procedures, and network assessments.
  • Strong analytical and problem determination/resolution skills.
  • Strong industry experience and deep professional/technical knowledge.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
