What you’ll be doing...

You will be a key professional in our Accounting organization, with the drive and motivation to expand your experience and develop subject matter expertise in a variety of topics. You have a solid accounting knowledge base and the desire to expand it to more complex scenarios as part of a dynamic and challenging Finance organization. You will support general accounting functions and report to an Accounting Supervisor or Senior Accounting Manager. A majority of the responsibilities will be to assist the Senior Manager or Supervisor with the monthly close process and ad hoc projects.

  • Perform moderately complex analytical assignments and prepare accounting related reports.
  • Prepare reconciliations of accounts, actively investigate reconciling items to resolve timely.
  • Own accurately and timely recording monthly accounting activity for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Perform analysis and coordinate with partners to resolve any differences.
  • Analyze and interpret reports for managers, providing recommendations to guide business decisions.
  • Undertake accounting projects and provide guidance on accounting issues as needed.
  • Field issue escalations from internal customers or delivery partners and respond to inquiries as requested, ensuring issue and error resolution.
  • Maintain records for accounting transactions.
  • Demonstrate understanding of a broad variety of data sources and process flows impacting accounting transactions.
  • Support developing, implementing, and maintaining, procedures and policies for the accounting function.
  • Compare system outputs with daily input verifying for accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Take a more leading role in guiding the company’s compliance with the requirements of Sarbanes Oxley, GAAP, and Verizon Accounting Policies.
  • Lead or participate, as required, in training and skills development initiatives as a subject matter expert.
  • Participate in the identification and implementation of improvements to accounting processes in order to provide timely, accurate information and to ultimately safeguard enterprise assets.
  • May act as a project manager for small to medium sized projects, leading a team of peers and subordinates in a matrix organization.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or four or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in the preparation of general ledger postings and account reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of FASB requirements, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and accounting best practices.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Knowledge of accounting systems and applications such as SAP, PeopleSoft, CPM/Essbase, Hyperion Financial Management, and Blackline.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or equivalent.
  • CPA certification (or are in the process of getting certified).
  • Experience with continuous improvement initiatives and root cause analysis.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
