What you’ll be doing...

The Principal Network Engineer will provide a Major Government Customer with Lifecycle Engineering (LCE) support for all network devices as part of the end-to-end managed service. LCE will perform the following categories of activity:

Network Engineering

  • Serve as the Key Technical Engineering Support Role as the network moves from the implementation phase into the steady state operational phase.
  • Provide guidance regarding to the implementation of solution-wide design changes.
  • Design and implement complex configurations.
  • Create implementation artifacts and documentation.
  • Assess the impact of implementations on the end-to-end solution stability.
  • Verify and test backup & fail-over facilities as required.
  • Support and Lead the effort of creating and validating roll-forward and roll-back implementation procedures.
  • Design and implement Quality of Service (QoS) where available.

Network Inspection

  • Inspect the performance of the solution components in current state and provide insight into the health and operation of the environment.
  • Produce a set of performance statistics on a regular basis, by which the solution platform and operation can be validated.
  • Assess the current managed devices and evaluate the benefit and compatibility of new software or hardware releases consistent with the Client’s current architecture, and business requirements.
  • Identify technology upgrade opportunities which would improve customer application performance and/or business operation.

On-going Consultation

  • Engage In-House or External resources to scope and deliver all Special Projects.
  • Produce the design artifacts that will ultimately drive the Change Management acceptance process.
  • Develop Statement of Work (SOW) to deliver the desired outcome.
  • Build the logical configurations for implementation of new network devices and new sites.
  • Build Methods of Procedures.
  • Provide design leadership and facilitate necessary communication with the Client to perform and report on the activities of the LCE.
  • Responsible for driving and completing the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) checklist and activation process.
  • Responsible for validating and maintaining device compliance to Operational standards.
  • Validate the network traffic flow.
  • Validate LAN/WLAN/WAN connectivity as required.
  • Responsible for providing complex incident resolutions as Tier II Technical resource for Network Operation Center and Program Management Office.
  • Network Design Documentation.
  • Create and update the Engineering Design Document, including high level designs for hub and remote sites.
  • Document management and interface IP addressing assignment.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with converged/integrated compute infrastructure systems, including requisite network knowledge.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems or engineering.
  • Foundational level of knowledge on Edge Velocity’s Technology or equivalent.
  • Vendor certification – At least a Cisco CCNP/CCDP/CCDA or equivalent practical knowledge and/or Juniper JNCIS with a higher level certification preferred (example – CCIE or JNCIE).
  • In-depth Juniper & Cisco knowledge with MPLS network architecture and design disciplines, operational support familiarity, previous and current extensive hands-on implementation, and thorough configuration knowledge and capabilities for all platform levels.
  • Very strong customer interfacing skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Extensive technical writing skills.
  • In depth knowledge of all routing protocols (For examples: BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, GLBP, VRF), Traffic engineering, L2/L3 VPN, multicast & class of service.
  • Strong understanding and familiarity with router, LAN switch, application accelerator, wireless controller and IP Voice.
  • Ability to be disciplined and oriented in practice of and adherence to process and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Software Development Process and Scripting.
  • Ability to research technical issues and develop solutions, strong attention to detail, excellent written and verbal skills, and good organizational skills.
  • Capability to be achievement orientated and possess problem-solving skills including conceptual and analytical thinking.
  • Capability of working on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.
  • Ability of exercising judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
