What you’ll be doing...

This position supports general accounting functions and reports to an Accounting Supervisor or Senior Accounting Manager. The majority of the responsibilities will be to assist the Senior Manager or Supervisor with the higher complexity monthly close process and ad hoc projects, with limited supervision.

  • Performs complex analytical assignments and prepares accounting related reports as an individual contributor.
  • Prepares and enhances assigned monthly balance sheet account reconciliations Uses financial and accounting experience and acumen to analyze and interpret data to make recommendations on possible courses of action as appropriate.
  • Provides subject matter expertise on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to support the proper treatment for business transactions.
  • Engages the team and establishes priorities for project management of related initiatives including impact on systems.
  • Leads complex accounting projects with little or no direction, including development of new stakeholder reports.
  • Interacts with internal teams as well as key stakeholders outside of accounting to successfully complete multiple and diverse deliverables.
  • Ensures the accurate compilation, analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Identifies and drives implementation of process improvement opportunities for Accounting, working closely with either internal teams or service providers and leveraging system solutions and simplifications.
  • Resolves inquiries and escalations from internal customers, and ensures root cause analysis and issue/error resolution.
  • Provides guidance and drives processes to ensure the company’s compliance with the requirements of Sarbanes Oxley, GAAP, and Verizon Accounting Policies.
  • Works as a project manager, as needed, to plan and structure work activities and set deadlines. Subsequently monitors progress on tasks.
  • Reviews monthly balance sheet account reconciliations on an ad-hoc basis and assists staff with research and issue resolution.

You have solid accounting knowledge across a variety of topics and the ability to self-direct, manage projects and meet deliverables. You are developing your management and leadership skills through assigned and self-driven projects and assignments, but enjoy working as an individual contributor.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business related field or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in the preparation of general ledger postings and account reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of FASB requirements, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and accounting best practices.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of accounting systems and applications such as SAP, PeopleSoft, CPM/Essbase, Hyperion Financial Management, and Blackline.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or equivalent.
  • CPA certification or in the process of attaining the CPA certification.
  • Consistent attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Experience with continuous improvement initiatives and root cause analysis.
