What you’ll be doing...

You will be responsible for supporting all activities related to the compliance process for Global Payroll, this includes validation of the on cycle, off cycle and online payroll calculations, providing Payroll Operations with control reports, providing data and materials for all audits including Sarbanes Oxley (SOX). In addition, you will be responsible for supporting all aspects of data security for Global Payroll systems. This includes data certifications; data trustee, and Payroll security profiles both set up and access supporting Verizon compliance guidelines. Compliance with external legal requirements is included in the scope of these responsibilities. You will interact and provide input on policy and process decisions that integrate with HR, IT, General Ledger, and Legal in addition to providing supervisory support for stakeholder, and external vendor relationships.

  • Responsible for understanding the end to end processing for PeopleSoft Payroll as well as the Time Reporting Systems that interface into Payroll and downstream interfaces to support SOX and internal/external audits. Main point of contact for all audit requests.
  • Maintaining on-call schedule to ensure all calculations are validated and FLUX reports are created for the Operations team review.
  • Demonstrating a basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and basic understanding of organizational industry standards specific internal control concepts and principles.
  • Ensuring processing service level agreements are maintained and provided to the Manager Data Management and Controls to maintain monthly metrics.
  • Performing training and development process documentation related to work stream. Mentoring Analysts and providing career development feedback.
  • Responsible for supporting audits working with appropriate Payroll personnel as needed, responsible for communicating remediation issues and documenting and overseeing resolution plans.
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining process documentation across Payroll to support SOX audit and controls as well as overall process repository. Ensuring updates are completed annual for all functions.
  • Conducting quarterly security certifications for each application owned by Payroll.
  • Monitoring data trustee requests.
  • Maintaining knowledge of Verizon procedures and guidelines related to data.
  • Maintaining knowledge of industry standards for work stream, conducting benchmarking to ensure processes are efficient.
  • Responsible to help identify automation, and standardization of processes in area of responsibility across Verizon. Present to upper management to support long term strategies.
  • Developing strong working relationships with stakeholders and peers to ensure processes are working effectively.
  • Working to support the team as assigned, enabling the business through technology enhancements.
  • Understanding the end-to-end functional processes as well as how the functional processes integrate with the overall end-to-end payroll processes.
  • Providing assistance to Production Processing and Operations Support/Process Integration team relating to project development testing efforts.
  • Supporting Global payroll responsibilities, where feasible and appropriate.
  • Providing primary support for all activities in support of testing changes impacting their functional area that are the result of system upgrades, enhancements or changes brought about from policy, processing changes, vendor or legal review.
  • Producing accurate and effective information using simple queries and reporting tools (e.g., minimal table joins and conditional clauses needed).
  • Generally working under existing standards and procedures; may require some interpretation. Exercising judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action; working on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations requires a review of identifiable factors.
  • Providing assistance in developing process documentation.
  • Ensuring payroll procedures are clearly documented and maintained
  • Providing support to Payroll Integration team as required relating to project development testing efforts.
  • Identifying and communicating process improvements as identified in the normal performance of daily functional activities.
  • Interacting with peers in HR, Benefits, and Benefit vendors to resolve employee questions/issues.
  • Monitoring the activities of a section to ensure processes perform as required

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with HRMS/Payroll Processing/Controls/Audit.
  • Compliance experience, including experience in supporting and completing audits.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Security, Finance or Accounting.
  • Two or more years of compliance experience (Global desired), including experience in supporting and completing audits
  • Professional Certification, Payroll Professional Certification or FPC.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with proven ability to manage diverse and decentralized teams.
  • Comprehensive understanding of end to end payroll processing requirements.
  • Good understanding of year-end processing procedures and payroll rules.
  • Background in Customer Service desirable, knowledge of Call Center Operations.
  • Finance Operations such as Payroll experience.
  • Excellent organization, communication and time management skills.
  • Good understanding of required compliance with legal, regulatory, and financial requirements governing functional tasks and activities.
  • Strong investigation/researching skills.
  • Knowledge of report query and design, SQL writing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially in Excel and PowerPoint; strong written and verbal communications skills,
  • Strong presentation skills, ability to drive visions or strategy to upper management.
  • Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis and project management.
  • Capability to be results oriented with a strong sense of urgency, proactive and flexible.
  • Superior quantitative, and analytical skills.
  • Capability to communicate effectively with staff, Director, Executive Director and Vice President levels.
  • Very strong organizational and communication (both verbal and written) skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to supervise multiple functions simultaneously.
  • Team oriented individual who interacts and supports team members, team building.
