What you’ll be doing...

Reporting to the Director of Strategy, the Manager, Portfolio Manager, Business Operations and Project Management will be responsible for building, driving and Project Managing internal and third-party teams as well as the governance of strategy projects within the wireline business units at Verizon. They will be responsible for managing multiple projects as well as serving as the key liaison with the finance and business segments, and transformation groups.

Cross wireline initiatives

  • Project Management
    • Create project plans, complete buy-in from all stakeholders, and develop tracking for all projects across the group.
    • Define and track key performance metrics of wireline strategy projects of all sizes.
    • Track wireline strategy program deliverables.
    • Proactively identify critical strategic issues, and potential mitigation plans.
    • Participate and facilitate strategic prioritization process.
    • Central coordination of several projects in parallel within the business units and shared services organizations.
    • Project management interface between each Wireline Business unit, Corporate Finance, Business Unit Finance, and Marketing segmentation teams.
    • Cross-collaboration with various internal teams to deliver both financial and project reporting.
    • Assure excellence to develop relationships across all Business.
    • Ensure cross functional stakeholder alignment.
    • Flexibility and collaborative work approach to solve complex problems and to develop specific solutions - taking into account multiple internal and external stakeholder groups and different level of stakeholder groups.
    • Compliance to Verizon policies and procedures.
    • Support preparation of regular reporting of the business to management (monthly operational reports; other dashboards and memos).
    • Coordination and alignment of product roadmaps, including organic and inorganic portfolio development.

  • Integration Management
  • Identify and manage dependencies and interdependencies between projects. Work with the Project Sponsors and/or Product Owners in the planning of projects.
    • Responsible for providing business operational support and for internal business projects and programs from inception to completion.
    • Responsible for managing and tracking organization headcount and staffing (including contractors) to meet financial targets.
    • Identify key interdependencies in projects against other active projects across the Business and work cross-functionally to ensure appropriate management and successful outcomes. Integrate project plans across projects.
    • Manage cross-functional project teams utilizing project management processes. Establish and monitor master project plans, acquisition and coordination of resources (people or systems, internal or external).

Business Operations

  • Responsible for all executive reporting and presentation materials, including creation and maintenance of an executive dashboard to reflect project performance.
  • Manage agendas, communication and meeting materials for all leadership and VP staff meetings.
  • Ensure team compliance with HR policies and training requirements.
  • Manage team communication and engagement.
  • Candidate will be required to have a high level of initiative and independent decision making. They should take as a goal the owner of HR liaison, staffing and communication responsibilities and manage with autonomy.
  • Candidate will be tasked to establish relationships with representatives from Corporate Strategy, HR, Employee Communications, Employee Relations, IT, Finance, Network, Legal, and other organizations. Negotiation skills are required to ensure all various needs and commitments are satisfied.

  • Vendor Management - Provide status and support the management of investment and relationship with vendors. Support the procurement process in conjunction with strategic sourcing.

  • Finance & Budget Management
    • Manage monthly budget reporting.
    • Develop spend projections with internal finance teams.
    • Communicate any variance with business units for reinvestment or possible reductions.
    • Provide weekly reporting to senior management to garner approvals on invoices.
    • Develop quarterly best views of all budgets to ensure finance is accruing to accurate totals.
    • Review overall spend by vendor and develop tracking and ROI models based on performance.
    • Liaise with reporting team to review partner performance and finance group for clear levels of communication.
    • Deep level of financial analysis to develop ROI models.

Business Development

  • Development of the Business Unit strategy, including: synthesizing market and competitive information across multiple sectors, analyzing industry trends and customer needs, and developing recommendations that will accelerate growth in revenue and margins through investment, acquisition, divestiture or operational improvement.
  • Keep pace with advances and changes in all areas of the business, and take advantage of those that will increase the company’s mission and profitability. Look for signals both inside and outside the company that could indicate threats to continued success or opportunities to grow the business and increase market share.
  • Apply strong communications capabilities to inspire and empower the organization to achieve BU strategy; provide guidance, counsel, and direction to all personnel as it relates to Business Unit strategy.
  • Partner in finding adjacent companies by conducting Performance analysis, market trends, customer insights, and competitive landscapes.
  • Support the development of investment plans and business cases by product groups/owners.
  • Lead and support ad-hoc strategic projects. E.g. adjacent market analyses; technology assessments, pricing.
  • Business development and alliance opportunities that extend beyond individual products or segments.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Accounting, Finance, FP&A, IT, Project Management or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • 7+ years of directly related experience with a strong finance or project management background.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with various/complex stakeholder groups & functions, & various levels of management.
  • Execute against tight timelines to ingest data and provide feedback to organization.
