What you’ll be doing...

At Verizon, we’re investing in our network to improve the way we live, work, and communicate. Our network transformation will be critical for all our future connectivity businesses including new products such as IoT, 5G, and Smart Cities. As part of this network transformation, you will help support Network Engineering Lab Test Teams that are building these networks, as they are engineered for growth for all our lines of business.

This is a unique opportunity to join the Wireline Network Operations and Engineering team and support the build out of these programs. Our team is responsible for Lab Operations Support, installing, testing, repairing and maintaining devices in the Verizon Maintenance Engineering Test Labs.

You’ll be responsible for the physical installation, configuration, monitoring, testing and maintenance of Networking and Telecommunications and associated electronic equipment. This includes:

  • Adhering to wiring per specifications and Standard Lab Operations Support procedures, in support of Optical, VoIP, and IP testing.
  • Performing technical duties in support of Verizon product and service testing, escalating issues as needed.
  • Using your individual knowledge to solve difficult technical and system problems.
  • Handling support and troubleshooting of various hardware and networking issues.
  • Working with senior engineers to handle and solve particularly difficult problems in a Lab Operations Support role.
  • Performing various tasks associated with the hardware installation, troubleshooting, and/or removal of computer, network, and telecommunications equipment. This includes but is not limited to, the building of network racks and overhead uni-strut supports, fiber duct and cable ladders as needed.
  • Learning to install and configure network switches, routers, compute servers, and related equipment and other communications platforms.
  • Performing assembly, builds and installation of equipment racks, cabinets, shelves and bays, and the installation of telecommunications hardware equipment in these containers.
  • Performing various tasks associated with cabling installation for telecommunication equipment, to include network hardware.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or one or more years of work experience.
  • Ability to climb ladders and lift 50 or more pounds.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree or certificate in networking or other telecommunications related field.
  • Experience with networking equipment (racks, cabling, wiring).
  • Ability to perceive differences in wire cable colors.
  • Performed testing and/or maintenance on networking devices.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Office applications (Outlook, Excel, and Word).
  • Experience with hand tools, electronic testing equipment, and computer hardware maintenance.
