What you’ll be doing...

Data drives our business and you will use business intelligence tools and data analytics to monitor the performance of our wireline and wireless networks to identify, predict and repair issues that affect the customer experience. You’ll be communicating the business value of technical solutions to stakeholders and keeping up with the market trends to ensure we maintain a competitive advantage. Through implementing descriptive, predictive and prescriptive capabilities, you will improve our network and enhance the way that our customers live, work, and play.

This position is on the Network Performance Analytics team which is responsible for monitoring the performance of the Verizon Wireline transport, data, video, and voice networks. The team uses analytical methods and tools to improve the customer experience, reduce costs and improve efficiency of operations of the networks.

This position will apply your knowledge of transport networks and systems in an analytics environment. In this role you will act as a data translator contributing your domain knowledge to a team of data scientist and data engineers to collect information from the network, load the information into a big data environment and then apply descriptive, prescriptive and predictive analytics. This includes managing key performance indicators (KPIs) reported by the network; as well as determine and develop methods to report and analyze performance of services and applications that reflect actual customer perception of the network. You will work with Operations and Engineering teams to inform them of trends or issues found in the network through your analytical analysis to improve network performance.

We are looking for an experienced network engineer that can take their domain knowledge and apply it in an analytics environment.

You will be a subject matter expert in transport networks and it's supporting EMS with an understanding of Ciena 6500 Converged Packet optical, One Control, and Blue Planet a plus. You are able to coordinate the collection of performance data from the network with an understanding of what the data means. Communicating with others comes naturally to you and you have a knack for explaining complex data in a way people can relate to. Your natural curiosity to solve complex issues serves you well as you enjoying seeing the results of your hard work.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related field.
  • Experience with Splunk or Tableau.
  • Understanding of R, SQL, Python or Jupyter Notebook.
  • Worked in a Data Analyst and/or Software Development role.
  • Business intelligence/visualization software experience.
  • Data mining, preparation and modeling experience.
  • Statistical analysis language experience.
  • Data preparation tool experience.
