What you’ll be doing...

As our Principal Equipment Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting Verizon Backbone networks – iEN, MSE, Unified Transport, CPA, IDN, Private IP, Public IP, VoIP, Switch, and Verizon Cloud Platform (VCP).

  • Lead in the creation of Detail Engineering designs for technologies associated with Verizon’s IP, Ethernet, Cloud, and Voice networks. Assist engineers as they engineer detailed, often complex, technical instructions (I-SPECs) for new & existing technologies and order equipment/cables/hardware.
  • Support engineers’ efforts to coordinate: project-specific installation designs, physical installations, engineering database (ICON, CCP, etc.) updates, equipment configurations, card/port assignments/requirements, power mapping, cable running lists, floor space and rack placement, and detailed Bill of Material (BOM).
  • Facilitate/interface with other Verizon Organizations on initiatives to optimize, improve, and/or create process, structures, and/or systems supporting production work.
  • Ensure that all engineering documentation (including ICON, Venue and CCP) is accurate and up-to-date for use by Install, Test, Implementation, Operations, Provisioning, Planning, Network Capacity Management, and Audit groups.
  • Duties and responsibilities also include leading First Office Applications (FOA) projects for new, often complex technologies, and providing engineering and system support when and where needed.
  • Manage and schedule multiple projects, effectively coordinating with Planning and Program Management organizations. Have a sense of urgency to exceed customer expectations.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have

  • A degree and six or more years of relevant experience with focus in the areas of Telecom Engineering and Network Implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a leader and self-starter with strong management and organizational skills.
  • Capability to be highly organized and ability to manage multiple, often conflicting priorities to successful completion.
  • Solid understanding of telecom networking, IP networks and technologies, Cloud networks and technologies, Switch networks and technologies, equipment designs and configuration procedures, and inventory databases.
  • Experience with ICON, SiteVU, Venue, CCP, and SRM as well as expense and/or capital budgets.
  • Strong technical and project management capabilities as well as excellent PC and software application skills including Windows and MS Office needed.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written skills for inter-organizational communications.
