Verizon’s launch of 5G service will usher in a new era of functionality. 5G is the fifth generation of wireless technology, it means a faster and more powerful network, with a massive impact on how we live, work and play. Potential applications include Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Edge Computing, Cloud Gaming, Social Gaming, Smart Clothing, Smart Homes and more.

Verizon’s Consumer Products team is seeking a passionate and experienced business development leader to head 5G Media & Entertainment partnerships. Reporting to the Head of 5G Media & Entertainment Products, you’ll have the rare opportunity to establish and nurture external engagements with industry leaders, including: entrepreneurs, startups, venture capital firms, sports leagues, TV studios, lifestyle brands, research labs, consumer products/services companies, VCs and more.

You will manage and grow a team of Business Development Managers, drive and contribute to the vision and strategy for Verizon’s 5G Media & Entertainment solutions.

  • Team Leadership – Directing team(s) and setting the direction for 5G Media & Entertainment Business Development team and management goals that align with company goals. Coaching staffing, creating opportunities for staff development, and making decisions on hiring, performance management, recognition and rewards. Addressing talent planning needs and ensuring appropriate staffing and skill mix.
  • Ideation and Visioning – Directing and overseeing the evaluation Media & Entertainment partnerships to showcase the power of Verizon’s 5G network and extend Verizon’s wireless leadership. Ensuring ground breaking development of new ideas in Sports, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Fashion, Commerce, Consumer Goods, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and more are consistently delivered and on track with the Verizon’s 5G vision. Developing use cases that will take advantage of future 5G networks to complement/supplement or create brand new revenues streams for Verizon.
  • Business Development – Being the primary point of contact for Verizon’s top partners in Sports, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Fashion, Commerce, Consumer Goods and other verticals. Proactively sourcing new opportunities for content licensing, distribution, monetization, product development and other partnerships, building strong relationships with business contacts inside and outside of the company. Representing Verizon in any external meetings and industry events to enhance the marketing and branding efforts. Leading internal teams and external resources through all phases of deal execution e.g. business case development, business and financial modeling, negotiations and leadership review.

You are a strategic problem solver and are execution oriented with the ability to start with a blank slate, operationalize the final solution, and lead all the steps in between. You are a leader with the ability to influence and drive toward continuous innovation and improvements. You have excellent communication skills both written and verbal and can communicate with all levels both inside and outside the organization.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, economics or creative fields.
  • Six or more years of sales, product marketing, product management experience business development experience within Sports, Entertainment, Retail, Lifestyle, Consumer Goods, Tech.
  • Two or more years of investment banking, management consulting, venture/PE investing, or corporate development/M&A experience.
  • Background in Sports, AR/VR, Immersive Media, TV Networks and Film Studios, Devices, Lifestyle Brands, Sponsorships, 5G.
  • Experience conducting and closing high-exposure partnership deals.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills and financial acumen.
  • Experience recruiting, developing, managing and inspiring high performing teams.
  • Substantial experience leading cross-functionally in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Ability to leverage consumer insights to create actionable experiential activations.
  • Direct experience managing a P&L and evaluating return on investment for product and/or product marketing initiatives.
