The Elevator Mechanic utilizes the technical skills required to repair, replace, maintain and inspect elevators and associated components.


  • Review and interpret electrical circuit diagrams for the maintenance and safe operation of elevators.
  • Trouble shoot, repair and maintain the various types of automatic elevators, including drum, hydraulic, single and double traction machines.
  • Maintain and service associated operating equipment such as controllers, selectors, generators, cab and hatch doors, and safety equipment and controls.
  • Re-rope all types of elevators.
  • Replace tapes and inspect and maintain shaft guide rails.
  • Perform inspections and make repairs on equipment or systems as required by Verizon Practices and/or local ordinances.
  • Work at unusual heights from the top of the elevator cab and in hoist way.
  • Move and/or lift weight up to 100 pounds.
  • Travel from one building location to another by public transportation or Company vehicle.
  • Evacuate people from elevator.
  • May be required to perform additional duties and tasks as required by the Company.


  • Must meet required test results for this position in accordance with company policy.
  • Must meet Verizon medical standards for the job. Must meet weight restriction to comply with OSHA/Company safety standards.
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs. many times a day. 
  • A valid state driver's license is required.
  • Ability to drive Company vehicle with standard transmission.
  • Experience in elevator troubleshooting, maintenance and repair.
  • Experience or schooling in electrical and/or mechanical field.
  • Must be available to work scheduled tours designated by the Collective Bargaining Agreement and/or the needs of the business.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and non-scheduled days as the needs of the business necessitate.

Salary Information

Weekly Rate: $538.00 - $1746.50
