What you’ll be doing...

As a Senior Security Engineer, you will be an integral member of an integrated network and security managed services team. In this client-facing position, you will work on site in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and will be responsible for Tier III network security device and security platform engineering in a large scale environment with completely custom security tools and services. You will help implement, maintain, manage, and update multiple security platforms supporting the services infrastructure.

This network security position involves hands-on implementation, operation, and troubleshooting of Cisco, Splunk, Blue Coat and FireEye security products. You will work closely with the security, network operations and systems administration teams serving as escalation point for complex incident and change management activities related to security. As well as be the point of contact for escalation to vendors.

Change management responsibilities include reviewing requirements, designing, documenting and implementing change in accordance with Verizon and customer standards. Incidents are defined as outages or service degradations that will be addressed and resolved by following pre-defined processes and procedures. You will also develop standard operating procedures and will capture changes updating overall documentation of live environment.

  • Designing, engineering, documenting, and implementing changes for security devices in a complex, enterprise environment
  • Performing incident and change management in a custom security stack and services environment
  • Serving as the escalation point for all security services incidents or complex changes; to include Cisco ASA Firewalls, IPS, Splunk, Blue Coat, FireEye, and other similar technologies
  • Training peers, briefing customers and other Verizon organizations outside of operations
  • Planning and overseeing tuning of the environment, technology insertion, code upgrades, audits and response to POA&Ms

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or 6 or more years of as a Senior Security Engineer with experience designing, implementing, configuring, and complex troubleshooting of firewalls and IDS/IPS
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience
  • Administrator level experience on an UNIX/Linux operating system
  • Active government issued security clearance, or eligibility to obtain a government issued security clearance at the secret level
  • Experience in three or more of the following security devices:
    • Splunk
    • Blue Coat
    • FireEye
    • Cisco Firewall and Router
    • Cisco FirePower IPS

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree or five or more years of experience as a hands-on network security engineer focusing on implementing and configuring Firewalls and IPS
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Security or other technical field
  • ITIL Foundation training or certification
  • CompTIA Security+, CCNA Security, or CCNP Security certification
  • Platform experience with SIEM
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills and ability to engage with customers to understand their requirements
  • Demonstrated capability to communicate effectively via phone, email, or ticket escalations
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Ability to identify and communicate gaps in processes
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to work and participate within a team environment
