What you’ll be doing...

You’ll be leading a team charged with overseeing various accounting responsibilities. You’ll be organizing and supervising the team’s work, ensuring the accuracy and efficiency that our Finance team is known for. In addition, you will guide your team to consistently pursue technology solutions to streamline our processes. In this position you will lead and direct a team of accountants and report to an Accounting Director/Associate Director. Your primary responsibilities will be to assist the Director/Associate Director with the operations of the department and provide positive leadership to direct and indirect reports.

  • Builds a strong team through recruiting, staffing, professional development, coaching, and/or corrective action as needed; provides input to management on team performance.
  • Leads and directs a team of accountants responsible for assisting with the month end close, financial statement analysis and other tasks related to the creation, maintenance and/or reconciliation of accounting records.
  • Effectively engages the team through delegation to successfully complete multiple and diverse deliverables. You will be accountable for the accounting treatment, completeness, and accuracy of assigned functions. Ensures team’s linkage to global finance organization.
  • Leads effort for developing the skills and experience of your staff.
  • Directs efforts in developing, implementing, and maintaining systems, procedures and policies for the group.
  • Reviews staff's work and analyzes the output for appropriate accounting treatment, completeness and accuracy.
  • Ensures team’s understanding of and compliance with Sarbanes Oxley, GAAP, and Verizon Accounting Policy requirements.
  • Leverages system and technology knowledge to drive simplification efforts.
  • Leads accounting projects to ensure compliance and adherence with controls for internal policies and external regulations.
  • Plans and structures work activities and sets deadlines for your team. Subsequently monitors the progress and results of team activities.
  • Oversees the completion of complex analytical assignments and preparation of accounting related reports.
  • Supports the Director/Associate Director with accounting, analyzing, and reporting on general ledger transactions.
  • Coordinates closely with the other finance teams to ensure complete and accurate accruals and simplify processes.
  • Interacts with internal and external stakeholders regarding objectives, deliverables, and resource allocation. Responds in an accurate and timely fashion to inquiries related to the group’s activities.
  • Contributes to the overall management strategy of the Accounting organization.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience managing a team of professionals.
  • Experience in the preparation and review of General Ledger postings and account reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of FASB, SEC requirements, Sarbanes Oxley, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, accounting best practices, cross functional accounting impacts, and tax reporting requirements.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with accounting systems and applications including SAP, PeopleSoft, CPM/Essbase, Hyperion Financial Management, and/or Blackline.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or equivalent.
  • CPA certification.
  • Direct project management experience, including initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and closing of projects.
  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards.
  • Experience or proficiency in (SQL) Structured Query Language to manage, develop and maintain databases or applications.
  • Experience designing and implementing accounting systems, running continuous improvement projects, and conducting root cause analysis.
  • Consistent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
