What you’ll be doing...

As our System Assurance Engineer, you will be responsible for advanced integration, operation and maintenance (OA&M), and performance monitoring of the Verizon Wireless networks and platforms found within a Services Aggregation Point. Networks supported include CDMA, EVDO, 4G LTE, 5G RAN/Distribution equipment. You will support a RAN comprised of Nokia and Samsung base station.

  • Participating in cross-functional projects as scheduled.
  • Proactively monitoring voice and data services and improving regional network element performance by resolving and improving mean time to resolution on issues that impact Verizon Wireless network services.
  • Monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) on regional switch & data network elements; including Virtual applications, LTE, 5G, VoLTE, EBH, and COIN networks.
  • Ensuring networks operate at peak performance, exceeding VZW performance KPIs, and complying with all Maintenance Engineering configuration guidelines and directives.
  • Upgrading, integrating, and performing preventive maintenance on multiple vendor systems by utilizing knowledge of Linux, Unix, Openstack, Junos, and Cisco IOS.
  • Running standardized testing and reporting from the many networking tools used to baseline network element performance. The referenced tools include RTT (LTE, EBH), ELPT, SevONE, Brix, Netscout, Irisview and Airwave.
  • Proactively engaging in troubleshooting and restoration efforts for all regional virtual applications and LTE network elements.
  • Reviewing nightly change controls and ensuring that work conducted by sub-market Field and System Engineers are completed in a way that is not adversely affecting network services and complies with the documented written MOPs.
  • Managing all Ethernet technologies and backhaul vendors to obtain root cause analysis for all outages, immediately obtaining/creating and distributing preventive procedures to avoid reoccurring outages, and working with stakeholders to drive the vendors to deliver the final resolutions/fixes required to prevent future outages.
  • Monitoring and maintaining -48VDC power plants, generators, HVAC and building automation systems.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Four or more years of experience in the same or related discipline.
  • Cisco CCNA, Linux and Red Hat certifications.
  • Demonstrated understanding of IP addressing, sub-netting, network segmentation (VLAN), MPLS, and virtual routing instances.
  • A proactive work style with the ability to set priorities, work independently and with a diverse group of professionals.
  • Demonstrated the initiative to independently identify issues, come up with timely, creative solutions, and own issues through resolution.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Verizon Wireless voice and data testing platforms and testing methodologies.
  • Fundamental knowledge of data networking platforms including switching and routing technologies including BGP, MPLS, OSPF, VLAN’s.
