What you’ll be doing...

The position is responsible for research and planning related to non-income taxes for the Verizon companies. The research required relates to sales and use tax, gross receipts tax, and other non-income tax and involves identification and analysis of tax law changes, tax legislation, company sales and purchases, and special transactions. As part of this research, the candidate will deal with the various Verizon billing and payable systems and related personnel. In addition, the candidate will interface with Tax Legal, Business Unit, and Regulatory personnel.

The following are the key functions of the Tax Research Manager position:

  • The position requires a thorough knowledge of state and local tax laws, rulings, and regulations; the capability to perform extensive tax research; compliance with tax laws and financial requirements; knowledge of financial systems; and tax planning to minimize Company cash flow and overall tax burden.
  • Responsible for projects related to application of tax laws and to preparation of one or all of the following: federal, state, or local tax returns.
  • Requires a broad knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Maintains complete and accurate tax records, prepares reports, and provides recommendations.
  • Reviews proposals for tax implications and recommends actions that meet the business plans while managing the tax liability.
  • Assists in tax audits.
  • May be involved with tax implications of mergers and acquisitions.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance or related field of study or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • CPA or MBA.
  • Six or more years of relevant transaction tax experience with an emphasis on sales and use tax research and planning, compliance, and audits.
  • Experience with large mechanized systems (i.e. billing, general ledger, and A/P).
  • Familiarity with automated tax systems.
  • Experience with on-line tax research tools.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and interpersonal skills as well as excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • High motivation and flexibility with demonstrated ability to thrive in dynamic environment and meet deadlines.
