What you’ll be doing...

As the Principal Engineer, you will be accountable for supporting timely completion of RF planning analyses, budgets and reports. You will support, review, refine and convey RF planning guidance and policies to East territory. You will provide Subject Matter Expertise related to BTS architecture, LTE architecture and associated planning tools. Additionally, you will ensure submarkets comply with corporate and Territory RF Planning policies and procedures. You will also provide Territory recommendations based on HQ direction as well as submarket feedback; and oversee efforts and share with other engineers/planners recommendations on process improvements to be best in class.

Typically, you will manage several projects at a time independently and proactively lead in implementing and supporting implementation of new technologies and system enhancements. You will be expected to present technical material to Submarket and Territory leadership, outlining upcoming technology features and impacts, readouts of market-level performance as well as prescriptions for improvement.

Duties include:

  • Provide subject matter expertise regarding BTS architecture and functionality.
  • Provide subject matter expertise regarding LTE architecture and functionality.
  • Provide subject matter expertise regarding 5G architecture.
  • Provide guidance for Network Design Assumptions.
  • Provide budget allocations for submarkets.
  • Collaborate with other Planners, Standards team, Traffic team, NS, HQ Planning, ME, and Service Performance teams to share best practices, coordinate trials, and drive improvements to tools and vendor equipment/software.
  • Ensure consistency in planning/budgeting across all submarkets.
  • Provide subject matter expertise of corporate tools to include VPI, MPT, NCWS, Fuze Planning, Atoll.
  • Provide and lead efforts to continually enhance corporate tools.
  • Lead efforts associated with annual budget and audits throughout the year.
  • Work with submarkets to ensure proper tracking of HQ goals.
  • Aggregate data collected from multiple sources, summarize and distribute.
  • Work with HQ and other teams to ensure consistency in planning assumptions.
  • Support successful completion of all projects and reports within RF Planning staff responsibilities.
  • Support development, optimization and maintenance of Territory guidance, policies and procedures to ensure effective deployment of financial resources.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships within the East Territory teams and with all submarket and HQ counterparts.
  • Attend vendor User’s Groups and Technical Exchange meetings as appropriate.
  • Work with corporate organizations to transition to new policies and processes as needed.
  • Prepare presentations to facilitate executive level network reviews and meetings.
  • Support market issue resolution and technical issues management.
  • Work with vendors to understand BTS evolution and growth requirements. Incorporate that knowledge into a network plan to guide budgeting and network implementation.
  • Develop and monitor BTS capacity plans. Guide regions in implementation of the plan.
  • Provide escalation for submarket issues to vendors and Territory and HQ management.
  • Develop yearly capital budget plan and manage changes.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Three or more years of RF Engineering experience.
  • Three or more years of traffic engineering experience.
  • Three or more years of system performance experience.
  • Three or more years of data analytics.

Even better if you have:

  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience with MPT, NCWS, Atoll, VPI.
  • Capability to make effective decisions independently.
  • Proficiency in the use of Google applications.
  • Proficiency in the use of Office Products to include Excel.
  • Proven problem solving abilities.
  • Proven leadership abilities.
  • Demonstrated strong analytic, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Project management experience with attention to detail.
  • High motivation and self-starter abilities.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and support occasional night or weekend work as needed.
  • Mastery of CDMA, EVDO, LTE and 5G design concepts.
  • Willingness to travel - overnight travel may be required.
  • Expert knowledge of RAN design and optimization for CDMA, LTE & 5G for both macro and small cell networks.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects.
  • Robust System Performance and RF Design experience and have thorough knowledge of complete RAN network and associated components, vendor technologies and equipment.
  • Significant experience in Data analytics and using various metrics to make decisions.
