Verizon has a rare opportunity to hire a Federal Security Operations Center Manager. We tap into our vast global network and over 25 years of security experience, analyzing over 61B events every year across 9 Security Operations Centers toinvestigate attack trends and activity, helping the U.S. government and enterprises make more informed, data-driven decisions. As our Federal SOC Manager, you will lead a team of 10 security analysts who work across a 24x7 schedule responding to and investigating network security events for our federal government customers. The SOC Manager will also be an escalation point for complex analytics investigations and should have advanced security analytics experience and abilities.

As a Federal SOC Manager, you will:

  • Manage the Security Operations Center (SOC) 24x7 team
  • Ensuring that Managed Security Services (MSS) meets and exceeds the expectations of each customer, including meeting customer SLA's and priorities
  • Work with other Government Network Operations and Security Center (GNOSC) managers to continually improve SOC processes and procedures to meet and exceed business Key Performance Indicators
  • Ensure that the security operations team fully adheres to processes, procedures and policies that are currently in place.
  • Compliance with various audit requirements, standards, and practices
  • Be responsible for the performance of your team, staff development (including training and career development), balance of teams, capacity and skill sets
  • Collaborate with delivery teams across the Verizon entities
  • Contribute to creating cohesion in performance and leadership as well as service improvement
  • Act as internal escalation owner for your team members who will partner with our client services organization, advanced support, implementation, networking and any other teams involved in delivery of service within Verizon
  • Regular and ongoing governance of service delivery including reporting, analysis, recommendations for improvements, and follow-up
  • Nurture working relationships with other service delivery teams within Verizon
  • Successfully manage business KPIs and focus on results in terms of costs, methods and employees. Exercise considerable judgment in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results

What we’re looking for...

You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 5 or more years of experience as a SOC Manager leading a team of network security threat analysts
  • 10 or more years of experience investigating complex network security threats
  • Experience with Splunk, FireEye, Sourcefire or other security analytics tools
  • Experience with packet capture/payload analysis
  • Must have, or must be able to qualify for, a government security clearance. Those with existing clearances, Verizon will hold up to a Top Secret clearance
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed for critical incidents

Even Better if You Have:

  • Master’s Degree in a technical field or an MBA
  • Security Certifications
  • ITILv3 certification
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Strong leadership skills with substantial years of people management experience
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment and work under pressure
  • Ability to analyze skill gaps in your team and provide resources, training, and education to address gaps
  • Must have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Resourceful and competent in all aspects of information security
  • Management of team in a 24x7 environment.
  • Complex problem solving/analytical skills
  • Certification in ITIL and/or previous work in an ISO operating environment
  • Prior SOP/Process development
  • Experience with Cisco ASA, JunOS, Fortinet
