What you’ll be doing...

You will perform paralegal duties for multiple attorneys and provide vendor/budget management support for 8 west states law and public policy team. Must possess strong oral and written communication skills while professionally communicating with staff members within the organization, external clients, stakeholders, and outside vendors. Must perform well in a team environment and be able to work with senior executives and high ranking government officials and their assistants.


  • Serving as docket manager on all open proceedings, including: updating docket tracker document weekly with new case activity; maintaining running calendar of action items; preparing docket binders as well as summaries of pleadings and testimony; handling e-filing/paper filing of briefs, testimony, and other regulatory submissions; and managing document production/discovery.
  • Maintaining accurate internal contact list to facilitate notification to affected business units of developments/orders in regulatory proceedings and providing notice of business-impacting regulatory actions to those business units.
  • Monitoring utility commission agendas/flagging items with potential impact on business units, and listening to commission deliberations on relevant cases.
  • Performing light legal research/Shepardizing cases.
  • Preparing first drafts of routine/non-complex filings based on examples provided.
  • Securing and synthesizing internal feedback on issues on which utility commissions are seeking comment.
  • Updating annual registrations with utility commissions.
  • Posting/organizing documents on Pacific/North Central SharePoint site for team access.
  • Providing support for legislative efforts as needed.


  • Acting as primary contract and billing support liaison for Verizon’s government affairs team and its outside consultants, including assisting with establishing, renewing and tracking contracts.
  • Ensuring that vendor bills are remitted in a timely manner and track the corresponding contracts.
  • Onboarding new law firms/consultants, including preparing draft engagement letters; and providing training on proper use of TyMetrix billing system, appropriate billing/expense detail, information required to meet lobbying reporting requirements, and use of correct matter numbers.
  • Tracking actual billings from TyMetrix against our contracts and team budget, and accruing for differences.
  • Tracking and managing memberships and corresponding commitments in relevant state and local membership organizations, and assisting in obtaining proper documentation to establish them in TyMetrix for invoicing.
  • Assist in tracking corporate political contributions and Verizon Foundation contributions to designated charitable organizations.
  • Support monthly analysis of actual expenses compared to the department budget.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • Paralegal certification or degree.
  • Five or more years paralegal experience or support position for lawyer or state government affairs internal Lobbyist.
  • Demonstrated communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • Exceptional Excel, PowerPoint, GSuite and Microsoft Word skills.
  • Proficiency with Lexis.
  • Strong planning, organizational skills and verbal presentation skills.
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Ability to identify, prioritize, and conduct appropriate follow-up on all variations of projects, including cross-functional projects.
