What you’ll be doing...

You will be focused on Internet Peering, interconnect and content caching for the purpose of ensuring efficient and high performing data traffic for our residential, wireless and business customers worldwide. This will include maintaining relationships with peer carrier and content provider networks, negotiating interconnect agreements, and handling traffic analytics and strategy related to technical and business needs. You will work closely with Design and Architecture, Infrastructure, Engineering, and Operations teams and assist Account teams supporting strategic customers.

  • Develop 1-5 year network plans capable of maximizing Verizon value for all Public IP interconnect in all regions.
  • Manage and own Global IP customer partners, peers and internal LOBs to define traffic sources and types (Web, OTT, gaming, etc.), volumes, locations and terms for interconnectivity; use and develop analytics platforms to be used for such determinations; work closely with Capacity Engineering counterparts to ensure consistency.
  • Attend Internet and networking conferences to represent Verizon's best interests in the technical arena.
  • Participate in the evaluation of high bandwidth customer opportunities, and review with Capacity Engineering the network impact statement and deliverables to enable customer activation.
  • Analyze Internet peering relationships and negotiate with other carriers on the terms of Bilateral Interconnect Agreements.
  • Evaluate 3rd party technology for content caching and localized delivery.
  • Lead lab evaluations and technical trials of new technology.
  • Collaborate with product vendors to define future requirements, evaluate roadmaps and develop budgets for annual new technology introduction and FOA.
  • Develop business cases for product and feature development driven by technology needs, network efficiency and revenue opportunities.
  • Identify key locations such as global data centers and IP exchange points for continued network deployment.
  • Frequently review plans with engineering and operations teams to ensure alignment of direction and capital budget.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in a network operator environment with Planning, Engineering or Operations experience.
  • Cisco or Juniper course experience or certifications in IP design, data center and service provider networking or relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with peering and interconnect related BGP functions including path attributes, communities, MED, multihop, multipath, etc.
  • Experience working with Legal teams and knowledge of the global telecommunications regulatory environment.

Even better if you have:

  • An advanced degree.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of Verizon’s Global IP network including VES, VPS and consumer access products, VDMS CDN products and deployed infrastructure.
  • Subject matter expertise, problem solving skills, and the ability to deliver results working independently and to facilitate consensus with downstream teams.
  • Skill at interacting and negotiating with carriers/partners on technical specifications and business terms.
  • Solid verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to present ideas in a logical and compelling manner to both small and large groups.
  • Results focus with solid commercial as well as technical skill sets.
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of traffic flow patterns and network statistics.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking in interpreting future impacts.
  • Project management and leadership experience.
