What you’ll be doing...

The Field Engineer - Switch is responsible for the advanced installation, operation, and maintenance of switching, data communications, and peripheral equipment associated with the Mobile Switching Center (MSC) or Mobile Telephone Switching Office (MTSO), Responsibility for the advanced operation and maintenance of data network elements within the Services Aggregation Point (SAP) or Distribution Center of the IMS Core ensuring network stability, integrity, and quality as well as diagnose and quickly resolve problems in a highly critical production environment (OS and application level). These network elements include, but are not limited to, IMS/ LTE, HSS, PGW, SGW, HSGW, MME, PDSN, AAA, NDS, CSCF, and PCRF. Other duties include coordinating installation, testing, and troubleshooting of transmission facilities (optical and electrical); troubleshooting, upgrading, and administering multiple vendor systems; maintaining system applications; ensuring quality customer service; and providing support to a varied user community; updating daily logs with site specific information; and composing clear and concise reports for system documentation. The Field Engineer-Switch is expected to perform his/ her duties with minimum supervision, and participate in cross-functional projects as scheduled

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Associate’s degree or two or more years of work experience
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience

Even better if you have:

  • Experience in LAN/ WAN operations and IP connectivity
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the following technologies and/ or platforms: voice switch infrastructure experience including Lucent 5E and ECP, Motorola MGX, and Nortel MTX; digital communications including: circuit-based and packet-based on electrical (DSx) and optical (OCx) interfaces, telecom experience of cross-connect (DACS), Multiplexors and ROADMs, SS7; Operating Systems and Applications including: UNIX/ Linux, MS-Windows, MS-Office; Computer systems support experience including: PC hardware and configurations, troubleshooting; Power experience including: Galaxy, Lorain, DC distribution systems, UPS AC distribution systems, troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of LAN/ WAN protocols
  • Must understand IP addressing (IPv4 & IPv6), sub-netting, VLAN, LAN/ WAN (MPLS/ VPN, Ethernet, GigE, OCx.) and the testing of those
  • Experience and knowledge of transmission facilities (optical and electrical)
  • Knowledge of computer systems, stored program control, and AC & DC power
  • Strong programming and computer skills with emphasis on applications
  • Available for shift work, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call as required
  • Must be available to travel to attend training and meetings off-site as required
  • A valid driver’s license
