What you’ll be doing...

You will be responsible for the proper operation of a large group of wireline network elements. Our goal is to ensure the integrity of our high reliability network infrastructure to provide maximum performance for our customers. You will provide technical and/or analytical support to one or more departments and aid in the successful completion of projects, including customer facing projects.

  • Provide support for interdepartmental objectives, including preventative and remedial maintenance, installation, optimization, building and grounds upkeep, and integration of network hardware and interconnect facilities that include the financial responsibility of reviewing services performed by vendors.
  • Work independently, as well as participate in cross-functional projects.
  • Perform a variety of activities in support of the functional processes, programs and/or services.
  • Compile and analyze data, create reports, provide information and/or recommendations regarding function specific policies, and track processes and activities.
  • Provide administrative support.
  • Support customer-facing installations in addition to terminal, node, and central office work.
  • Implement corrective actions in a timely manner.
  • Take initial steps to use test equipment in support of on-site testing for network systems. Utilize OTDR, OLTS, and related test equipment to troubleshoot and test fiber.
  • Make recommendations to engineering for improving network reliability and implementation.
  • Maintain inventories of test equipment, spares, and new install material.
  • Update daily logs with site-specific information.
  • Compose clear and concise reports for system documentation.
  • Work with multiple internal and external groups to manage and coordinate work.
  • Engage with vendors, system administrators, and network personnel to resolve issues.
  • Operate a company vehicle and periodically work one-on-one with other operations peers.
  • Work with the customer, internal groups, external vendors, external carriers, and suppliers to provide technical support for our customers.
  • Work on a regular basis with other internal and external organizations for associated projects.
  • Interact with other members in the team to provide cross project support.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation within a specified coverage area and work various shifts needed to support network and customer issues.
  • Read, understand, and execute methods of procedures (MOPs) and ensure technical standards are adhered to with no adverse effects to the network.
  • Work under existing standards and procedures, applying interpretation where applicable.
  • Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Work on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations requires a review of identifiable factors.
  • Perform both hardware and software updates and/or changes to remote site equipment as necessary.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or one or more years of work experience.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Electronics training in data communications, digital communications, operating systems and applications, computer support, project management, and power.
  • Proficiency with PC word processing and computer support experience, including troubleshooting PC hardware and configurations.
  • Power experience such as DC power distribution systems and generators.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook.
  • Capability to deploy back-up power generators at remote sites.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications equipment, such as T1, DACS, or OMP; processes and systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with all levels within the internal and external customer organization both verbal and written.
  • Ability to handle challenging situations effectively.
