What you’ll be doing...

As our Principal Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for being the subject matter expert who provides technical expertise with regards to the Ericsson, Nokia and/or Samsung 4G eNodeB and 5G gNodeB in the Maintenance Engineering organization. The support will be provided during planning, staging, first office application (FOA/FSA), commercial deployment, and continued maintenance to a variety of teams that include Market Operations, Performance and Engineering, Network Implementation, Product Development, HQ/Territory Network Planning, National Systems, Information Technology, Revenue Assurance, and other Maintenance Engineering groups in order to fulfill complex business requirements.

  • Roadmap, Lab and FOA/FSA - You will assist in planning, design, equipment selection, staging, testing, and integration of new system hardware and software. You will work with the vendor to develop and implement new products as well as product roadmaps which improve the product performance, functionality and program profitability for Verizon Wireless. You will support Product Development teams in the submission of requests for new product functionality. You will actively manage Verizon Wireless and vendor lab environments in which they will test and refine new hardware/software before approval for installation in the production environment. You will lead operational teams in the FOA/FSA process for the first installation of new hardware/software including feature validations.
  • Design consistency, standardization and reliability - You will create and publish functional and technical requirements. You will analyze hardware/software design, features and enhancements in order to develop test plans which effectively confirm the successful deployment and operation of the product. You will fully understand system architectures, system operations, end-to-end designs and device-system interactions in order to develop troubleshooting guides to be used by all other Network organizations.
  • Outage management - You will provide outage resolution oversight. Be the central Verizon escalation/support contact to Network Repair Bureau (NRB), Network Operations Center (NOC), customer service, national/market operations and performance teams when major outages occur. You will collect, identify and evaluate data relating to system problems that impact application performance and efficiency. You will analyze system failures and develop short- as well as long-term solutions to address each. You will be responsible for vendor escalation to ensure minimum outage duration. You will need to be able to work with multiple vendors across multiple platforms to achieve system stability. In the event that executive leadership needs to be involved, Maintenance Engineering management will be brought in as a point of further escalation.
  • Administrative management - You will provide administrative management of the monitored products. This management requires you to negotiate Service Level Agreements, Statements of Work and General Purchasing Agreements. You will review vendor performance regularly in order to ensure technical compliance with agreements. When necessary the individual will be involved in the collection of penalties from the vendor for non-compliance. You will be challenged to minimize the cost of all new capital purchases as well as actively reduce existing vendor expense costs year over year.
  • Receive broad guidance & is accountable for project or program results.
  • Exercise considerable judgment in developing methods, techniques & evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Work is accomplished independently. Line of sight 1 to 3 years.
  • Develop resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity.
  • Analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
  • Exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Experience with operation, maintenance and engineering of the eNodeB.
  • Good knowledge of LTE signal and user plane flow.
  • Good understanding of device types (CategoryX, IoT) and interaction with eNodeB.
  • Knowledge of 3GPP specifications for various new features and functionality.
  • Independent thinking and an ability to work autonomously.
  • Demonstrated full use and application of principles, theories, concepts and technologies.
  • Capability to work independently or member of a highly skilled technical team responsible for fulfilling complex business requirements with the implementation of reliable & efficient automated solutions; may be enterprise wide initiatives.
