What you’ll be doing...

You’ll be responsible for managing compliance for Regulatory filings for the Wireline and Wireless businesses. This will include the preparation and/or review of tax returns and regulatory filings, research and interpretation of statutes and laws, analysis of accounting entries and surcharge recovery.

  • Manage the wireline and wireless compliance process for the Regulatory team, including the preparation of key filings.
  • Prepare and/or review Regulatory filings which include those filed with the FCC, PUC, State Regulatory Agencies and third party fund administrators for all Verizon owned companies to ensure accurate and timely filing in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, judicial decisions, and rulings
  • Develop and update surcharge rates by creating and maintaining cost recovery models.
  • Work on and manage projects that include implementation of cost saving strategies and process improvements to enhance the compliance process.
  • Manage the accounting aspect of the Regulatory function, including the review of account reconciliations and accrual journal entries.
  • Understand surcharge recovery and expense gaps.
  • Review payments and manage the liabilities and expenses related to the tax returns; work with AP, Treasury and various in-house payment systems.
  • Compile the annual budget and manage monthly cash forecasts.
  • Be involved with mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence and computing purchase price adjustments.
  • Manage and adhere to all SOX controls.
  • Assist with all Regulatory related audits.
  • Develop best practices for the team.
  • Conduct research as needed, including the tax impact to all Regulatory filings with the addition of any new products and services.
  • Understand the financial statements and be able to interpret for compliance impacts.
  • Focus on identifying process improvements and streamlining existing procedures.
  • Interface with tax legal, tax technology, tax compliance, tax research and other business groups.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of tax law, compliance procedures, accrual methodology, and tax initiatives.
  • Project management experience.

Even better if you have:

  • CPA or MS in Taxation.
  • Experience in finance, tax or equivalent.
  • Regulatory experience.
  • Experience with tax research, tax accounting, SOX processes, telecommunication taxes, and tax saving strategies.
  • Ability to prioritize deliverables with competing timelines.
  • Comfort in accurately managing deadlines.
  • Solid analytical and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work equally well both independently or as a team.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Familiarity with the data requirements needed for the preparation and filing of tax returns, such as knowledge of billing systems, etc.
  • Experience working with models for forecasting revenue and expenses.
  • Knowledge of various tax systems, such as CCH, RIA, and Vertex.
  • Exposure to PeopleSoft or SAP (or other major General Ledger Suite Software).
  • Working knowledge of artificial intelligence (i.e. “BOTS”).
  • Technical skills.
  • Experience handling audits and replying to State and Local Auditor IDR’s.
