What you’ll be doing...

This role is the strategic marketing and communications lead at Verizon Ventures and is focused on building the firm’s brand reputation both in the external startup ecosystem and internally among Verizon’s strategy and product teams. You’ll lead the development and distribution of audience-facing assets that are shared across Verizon Ventures’ internal and external marketing channels. You’ll work cross-functionally across the Ventures team as well as with corporate Internal Communications, External Communications, and Legal groups and with external agencies.

You are a versatile marketing professional with the ability to conceive and execute a range of programs and events at both a strategic and tactical level. You will lead a variety of projects from conception to completion, on time, on budget, bringing the most impactful ideas to life in the best possible way.


  • Strategize on new creative content to distribute to our community of internal and external audiences to cultivate awareness and support the thought leadership positioning of Verizon Ventures and our portfolio companies.
  • Own and manage all of Verizon Ventures’ social media channels.
  • Create new marketing, branding, and communication content, including blogs, social media posts, press releases, emails, newsletters, event signage, and other materials as needed.
  • Manage an outside agency: oversee and negotiate their contract, direct their efforts, and review their performance.
  • Work directly with Verizon’s corporate communications and legal teams to coordinate efforts and finalize proposed content.
  • Manage editorial and events calendars, researching and identifying potential media opportunities and speaking engagements.
  • Take a lead role in producing and running events, and securing speaking opportunities.
  • Provide strategic support to portfolio companies’ marketing efforts, including funding announcements, press opportunities, and speaking engagements.
  • Track performance of social channels and website traffic.
  • Develop and implement marketing/advertising campaigns to increase traffic and engagement.
  • Conduct CVC marketing benchmarking.

What we’re looking for...

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience in marketing, public relations, communications, or a related role, with at least two years working in a large organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Master’s preferred, but not required.
  • An excellent storyteller with exceptional written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong project management skills from planning through execution to results analysis.
  • High attention to detail, assertive and proactive self-starter able to work well in a dynamic, matrixed environment.
  • Working familiarity with social media channels including Twitter, LinkedIn, and Medium, as well as the G Suite.
  • Tech savvy with strong interest in the tech startup environment and passionate about the Verizon Ventures mission.
  • Strong critical thinking and research skills and ability to analyze multiple options and make a compelling case for a recommended best approach.
  • Ability to be flexible and highly adaptive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Ability to multi-task, dynamically reshuffle priorities, and process information efficiently.
  • A creative, open-minded, solutions-oriented approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Collaborative team player.
