What you’ll be doing...

Verizon Global Technology Services is responsible for the infrastructure and platforms that all Verizon IT employees use to design, collaborate and build great customer experiences. We are looking for an experienced engineering director to accelerate the transformation of Enterprise IT Cloud services to public cloud-based platforms and services.

You and your team of software development, network, and systems engineers will work with internal Verizon product teams to develop new and enhanced services that give enterprise IT teams the ability to innovate and deliver products and services to our retail customers, employees generating $B’s in revenue. You will influence out product and service roadmaps and build new infrastructure services from scratch to meet our business and security needs at scale. You will re-engineer monolithic and costly legacy services and replace them with AWS cloud-based services.

Additionally you and your team will be at the forefront of defining the forward looking developer experience and software engineering platforms including our DevOps toolchains, API platforms and PaaS and container solutions.

This role is also responsible for management of IT and technology assets. You would be responsible for creating and maintaining an accurate map of IT assets across the enterprise, building an asset life cycle cost model and providing asset information as a service to business, IT and sourcing stakeholders. Your team will work closely with other teams to identify and track software rationalization candidates and play a key role in achieving financial objectives as part of the modernization and cost reduction initiatives.

The ideal candidate is a leader who is well versed in Cloud architecture and technologies, proven record of delivering scalable services using public cloud infrastructure (preferably multi cloud). The candidate with a track record of leading and growing high performing engineering teams. You will need to carefully balance the talented current team with the need to attract, hire and develop talented customer-obsessed engineers and managers.

What we’re looking for...

  • 10+ years of experience managing IT product, engineering and operations teams
  • Bachelors in Computer Science or related field, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Public Cloud Certification(s) are desired.
  • Built and managed IaaS and PaaS preferred.
  • Developed new products or services using AWS infrastructure services preferred.
  • Delivered automated software and service quality assurance preferred.
  • Experience with various asset management solutions, understanding of product licensing models, data collection and presentation layers.
  • Experience with leveraging asset management to identify and drive strategic initiatives
  • Demonstrable experience identifying savings opportunities for software licensing, and services
  • Experience managing vendor relationships, contract negotiations and influencing product roadmaps
  • Experience developing technology strategies and solutions in support of business objectives, and driving the execution of the plans
  • Demonstrable experience with enabling multiple public clouds (AWS, OCI) for enterprise consumptions and ability to drive the enablement/adoption of PaaS and SaaS services
  • Deep understanding and experience with multiple public cloud platforms and practices (AWS must, OCI & GCP prefered)
  • Deep understanding and experience with database solutions in public cloud space and VMWare Cloud on AWS (VMC)
  • Broad experience and expert knowledge with various IT domains including Cloud, Compute, Security, Storage, Network, OS platforms, Containers, RDBMSs and data centers
  • Experience with the state of the art developer platforms including CloudFoundry, Kubernetes and serverless technologies
  • Understanding of DevOps toolchains including the Atlassian toolset, Jenkins, Aritfactory and Ansible
  • Ability to identify, evaluate and demonstrate value of products and services that solve real problems
  • Must demonstrate strategic thinking, market analysis and creative thought leadership
  • Excellent communication skills; this role will require the creation of content such as whitepapers and other written deliverables and ability to present to C-level execs
  • Exhibit mastery of facilitation and influence across teams, departments and divisions, with a track record of building relationships with diverse groups of leaders and engineers
