What you’ll be doing...

The Network and Technology Spend Strategy & Analytics team is hiring a strategic thinker to join a high profile, high visibility team that powers Network analytics and strategic thinking for Verizon. You will be part of a team that builds tools, analysis, and insights that informs, quantifies, and enables the visualization of data to drive business decisions and investment for the Verizon Wireless and Wireline Networks.

We create actionable operational and strategic insights and visualizations for senior leaders in the company across multiple organizations. You will be part of the team that shapes multi-billion dollar investments for the nation’s largest Network. We are looking for a Data Engineer to build, optimize and maintain conceptual and logical database models. This is a job for a decisive, quick, forward-thinking, strategic, and tactical thought leader. You have exceptional influencing skills and ideally, experience working across areas and levels of an organization.

For this role, you should know how to analyze system requirements and implement migration methods for existing scattered data. Hands-on experience with SQL and Oracle is also required. Ideally, you are familiar with predictive analysis and data visualization techniques using relevant tools (e.g. Tableau, Alteryx and R, or Python). You will also create and support models that predict operational resource requirements based on multi-year deployment plans. The model will provide and integrated, end-to-end view of resources required to build and maintain the wireline and wireless network

  • Program manage internal resource (FTE) modeling initiatives.
  • Contribute to the GN&T True North Plan, Verizon’s comprehensive network strategy.
  • Play a central role in the technical architecture, development and delivery of data products and features that would be used by Wireless and Wireline Network engineers.
  • Build efficient and reusable data systems and abstractions.
  • Find and address database performance issues.
  • Participate in data table and dataset design, engineering and code reviews.
  • Identify and communicate data engineering best practices.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience
  • Two or more years of experience in the design and development of distributed data systems.
  • Three or more years of experience working with SQL.

Even better if you have:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Strong Computer Science fundamentals, concurrent programming, and data structures.
  • Strong experience with Big Data (2 or more years of hands-on experience working on TB to PB scale datasets).
  • Strong dataset experience in document, graph, log data, and semi-structured data.
  • Good experience in Machine Learning, Statistical Modeling, Data Mining, Pattern Recognition, Information Retrieval, Natural Language Processing, or Search Ranking.
  • Solid understanding of full development lifecycle, developing detailed technical designs, and implementation.
  • Four or more years of experience in the design and development of distributed systems.
  • Five or more years of experience working with SQL.
  • One or more years of ETL experience.
  • Familiarity with predictive analysis and data visualization techniques using relevant tools (e.g. Tableau, Alteryx and R, or Python).
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills and the capability to effectively communicate across all leadership levels.
  • Understanding of large scale telecommunication networks.
  • Ability to lead large cross functional teams.
  • Passion for creating high-quality data products working closely with data scientists, data architects, Network engineers, RF planners and IT teams.
  • Solid experience in both SQL and NoSQL variants.
  • Experience working with both structured and unstructured datasets in high-volume, high-velocity production environments.
