What you’ll be doing...

As a Network Design Engineer at Verizon, you will work directly with enteprise, Fortunte 500 customers as they undergo network transformation. As the primary interface to customers in support of their WAN/LAN enterprise projects, you will create great enterprise customer data network designs. You will be viewed as a SME in corporate network technology, consulting with the customer on best-in-class equipment, industry best practices, and match solid desigin with technical and business needs. This position will require independent thinking and demand full use and application of SD-WAN principles, theories and concepts of routing and switching technologies. You will work closely with Verizon and customer operations, project management, and engineering teams to ensure meeting the customer’s requirements. In addition, you will provide technological vision for network transformation, serve as the Engineering Team lead back into Verizon, and ensure information is flowing to engineering resources assigned to project. Continuous improvement efforts drive our business and you will work with customer technical teams to provide solutions for customers' internetworking communications requirements.

In this role you will be:

  • Investigating, designing, planning, and implementing enterprise corporate and data center networks, especially routing and switching technologies
  • Partnering with customer teams to develop solutions that support their requirements
  • Preparing network schematics to define and illustrate network design solutions
  • Creating hardware and software configuration upgrades
  • Providing IP addressing and routing strategies
  • Preparing detailed work orders for technicians

Your technical skills are top notch, and you are known for digging into the details to find the best solutions. You know how to get to the bottom of your customers’ needs, and how to manage your stakeholders’ expectations. Talking to people comes very naturally to you and you have an ability to communicate complex information in a way that people understand – whether verbal or written.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience as a network design engineer focused on routing and switching
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience in network engineering

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a techincal field
  • Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA) certification
  • Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) certification
  • Experience with Cisco LAN switching, WAAS, Juniper routing and internal wireless products
  • Project management experience
  • Experience with contemporary technologies including MPLS, TCP/IP, IPSec, BGP, QoS, IP Telephony, Multicast, and/or other similar tools
  • Technical knowledge and CCNP experience
  • Designed and implemented large scale customer networks
