What you’ll be doing...

The DOS Network Engineer will be responsible for identifying and mitigating denial of service attacks against Verizon critical infrastructure services as well as attacks against external customers. The Engineer must have experience in responding to denial of service attacks, identifying traffic anomalies, and devising filtering strategies in real time. Must have experience in various networking and security technologies and be able to communicate with customers. The DOS Network Engineer will be responsible for provisioning customer traffic monitoring using various "flow" technologies on multiple routing platforms including: Cisco and Juniper, as well as various flow analysis platforms including Arbor Networks.

Responsibilities include a wide range of activities surrounding Tier 2/3 support of DOS Defense Detection and Mitigation Services. Duties include full DOS Defense support and maintenance of the product to include; installation of new customers, ensuring customer configurations are up to date, assisting the customer in DOS attack situations in real time and modifying mitigation configurations when necessary. Duties also include performing regular system maintenance; code upgrades, reviews, configuration changes, and monitoring. Backup cycles and security reviews are also performed on an ongoing basis. Will directly interact with customers on high visibility and complex technical issues to meet and support SLAs. The successful candidate will join an elite team and will participate in 24x7 on-call rotation to respond to critical customer issues and questions. The Network Engineer must have exceptional problem solving and multi-tasking skills are essential. The candidate must have the ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, while effectively managing priorities.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, and six or more years of progressive technical experience in a Network Engineering role.
  • A thorough understanding of the TCP/IP protocol suite, demonstrated proficiency with UNIX.
  • Demonstrated expertise with Cisco and Juniper operating systems.
  • A thorough understanding of BGP and internetworking.
  • Hands-on experience with DoS/DDoS detection, analysis and mitigation, attention to detail and English language core competency.
  • The ability to provide oral and written communication to customers, peers, and management. Must be able to work independently and collaboratively and demonstrate critical thinking/problem solving skills.
  • Skills in at least some of these areas: scripting language (perl, python or shell scripts) skill, database familiarity, working knowledge of botnets, operational experience of DNS, network design experience, in depth knowledge of NetFlow/cflowd. Operational familiarity with Arbor Networks' Peakflow SP and TMS systems.
