What you’ll be doing...

The MSS Senior Security Analyst is responsible for protecting the client’s intellectual property, network & computing assets, employee data and the corporate brand from the threats seen in an evolving security landscape. This is a technical resource for in-depth incident analysis and consulting for customers. Senior engineers are experts in their fields, whether policy tuning, incident management, and security analytics. In this position the senior engineer will be supporting the MSS customers as an expert on products and services. Candidates have prior SOC experience and understand the demands of this dynamic environment.

The Sr. Security Analyst will demonstrate an ability to detect and respond to security incidents, indicators of compromise and advanced persistent threats against the clients. The Security Analyst will work with the client’s IT, Security Operations and Incident Response teams to remediate these threats against their assets.

This resource will provide regular analysis of incident and log data using the Verizon proprietary SEAM engine and all of the tools made available to them by Verizon and the clients. The Security Analyst will produce reports and brief the client to provide an accurate depiction of the current threat landscape and associated risks utilizing Verizon proprietary, customers, community, and open source intelligence sources. The Security Analyst will have a strong understanding and experience configuring gateway and endpoint security technologies in order to detect and prevent security threats. They will also understand the performance impact levied on these systems and will have experience balancing the need for the highest levels of security with need for optimal network performance. The security policies and configurations on those platforms will be reviewed during regular intervals with the clients in order to meet the challenges posed to the client’s network and to mitigate with the existing technologies deployed.

  • MSS Sr. Security Analyst will provide security incident analysis to complement the escalations being provided by the Verizon SOC.
  • MSS Sr. Security Analyst will provide guidance & recommendations on risk & security posture at the client’s sites.
  • MSS Sr. Security Analyst provides functional expertise for customer projects that contain in-scope security requirements. Responsibilities may include: consulting, level of effort determination, equipment specification, and implementation recommendations and guidance. Dedicated analyst may also proactively or reactively generate proposals for recommended, corrective, courses of action based on security incidents or RCA reports.
  • MSS Sr. Security Analyst will consult with SOC support personnel on most pertinent security incidents, and provide customers with remediation recommendations.
  • Through internal consulting / mentoring / training, the Principal will interact and assist other MSS personnel as a technical escalation point for complex security architecture review and operational enhancement.
  • Through scalable mentoring and training, MSS personnel would use the Principal’s knowledge and experience to increase their operating knowledge level to increase efficiency and accuracy when managing complex client solutions.
  • Escalated incident research and evaluation.

What we’re looking for...

The position requires a motivated and customer-focused analyst who can work with the clients as a subject matter expert. The position requires an analyst with an expert level understanding of security threats and how to mitigate those threats.

You’ll need to have:

  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Recent experience with network intrusion detection and response operations.
  • Demonstration of technical proficiency with:
    • In-depth knowledge Splunk, Unix, Linux, pearl, scripting.
    • The following security products: Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco, Checkpoint Bluecoat, Firepower.
    • The following analytics tools: Splunk or another commercial SIEM tool.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in computer science /security/other.
  • Ten or more years of direct experience in Intelligence collection, analysis, and reporting process/procedures.
  • Ability to drive process improvements and identify gaps.
  • Capability to develop resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity.
  • Proven problem solving skills.
  • Progressive experience with analytics and Firewall technologies with a focus on industry trends and technology advancements and how they relate to MSS.
  • Proven to be proactive in customer communication and follow-up with the ability to drive process improvements and identify gaps.
  • Experience in a dedicated security position.
  • Ability to excel in high pressure environments.
  • Self/Online/Class training on 3rd party analysis and policy definition.
