What you’ll be doing...

As a Network Visibility DevOps Engineer you will be responsible for the design and engineering of Verizon's Network Probing and Visibility Applications, such as Irisview and Airwave for Data Performance. These applications provide performance monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities to our network engineering teams for Verizon’s 4G and 5G networks.

General responsibilities include:

Irisview Application Engineering:

  • Working with the vendor to ensure Irisview has visibility of new upcoming network protocols and element types.
  • Reviewing and approving application release acceptance testing.
  • Driving application health and performance through vendor provided solutions as well as Verizon internally developed solutions.
  • Owning and managing application data feeds to/from Irisview.
  • Pursuing visibility solutions for Network Function Virtualization and 5G.
  • Running to a crisis for major Irisview issues.
  • Network Visibility Engineering - Single Pane of Glass (Airwave for Data Performance)
  • Driving reliable network visibility for the network performance community by enriching datasets from Irisview with data from additional network tools.
  • Closely collaborating with the Airwave Development Team on feature enhancements, dataset enrichment, and data collection.
  • Providing direction to the development team as a consultant for data performance objectives.

Team automation tools:

  • Developing and deploying self-service tools for the user community.
  • Developing automation tools for overall team operational efficiency.
  • Composing diagrams, spreadsheets, and reports to facilitate sharing of information and designs.
  • Communicating and re-communicating all designs, standards, and other necessary information to engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders anytime they need.
  • Ability to work in a team, perform individual duties as well as delegate tasks within the group.

This engineer is expected to perform his/her duties with minimum supervision, and participate in cross-functional projects as scheduled.

What we’re looking for...

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with LTE networks.
  • Experience with software development.
  • Knowledge of LTE network design including EPC architecture, logical LTE interfaces, and physical transport.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Knowledge of Verizon Cloud Platform and Network Function Virtualization, ability to understand its implications on network visibility, and tailor it to the needs of our users.
  • Software or scripting knowledge to create or direct others to create, tools and reports to assist Market engineers and other users.
  • Ability to drive national standards with the Irisview user community of engineers.
  • Ability to drive vendor for new features, solutions, and out-of-the-box thinking.
  • Experience mentoring engineers.
  • Excellent written and oral skills.
  • Knowledge of Verizon equipment engineering practices and standards.
  • Knowledge of Irisview, how it gets data, and how it serves our users.
  • Knowledge of IMS NEC pod and DMZ architecture.
  • Knowledge of VCP Core/Edge architecture.
  • Experience with Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • Experience with Microsoft Visio.
  • Experience with Machine Learning and/or Data Analytics.
  • Previous experience using version control systems (SVN, GIT, STASH, etc.).
  • Previous experience with technical documentation, MOP creation.
