What you’ll be doing...

Serves as our Associate General Counsel handling state and local legal and regulatory issues relative to the deployment of next-generation network infrastructure for the central states. Works closely with the state and local government and external affairs teams providing general advice on legal and regulatory issues impacting the business with a focus on issues involving technology deployment.

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating state and local legislative language and advocacy points.
  • Providing legal advice and counsel on state and local political law issues including lobby and gift law compliance.
  • Proactively identifying and mitigating any areas of risk or reputational damage.
  • Representing Verizon in regulatory proceedings at the state and local level.
  • Planning, developing and communicating key messages and strategic initiatives to state and local stakeholders.
  • Independently involved in investigations and litigation on legal matters vital to company operations. Is recognized as an internal expert in their area of specialization and has a deep understanding of the corporation’s business and legal needs. May lead counsel managing several major projects with corporate-wide impact simultaneously.
  • Applies highly competent to expert knowledge of practices, methods, precedents and special issues specific to a field of law or broad competence in several legal disciplines
  • Handles complex to highly complex issues. The legal work is characterized by the application of substantive expertise to analyze legal issues in the context of acceptable business solutions
  • Expected to interface with multiple clients
  • Will typically direct outside counsel

What we’re looking for...

  • JD degree and 6+ years of relevant work experience.
  • 5+years of legal experience with a law firm and/or in-house.
  • Bar membership and needed licenses.
  • Litigation experience.
  • Experience in working with Public Sector bodies such as legislative, state and local.
  • Proficient computer skills across various platforms (Microsoft, Google, Apple, iOS, Android).
  • Experience in the communications or wireless technology industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local Permitting Processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of working with local jurisdictions.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems and develop and lead implementation of appropriate solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel and enforce legal requirements.
  • Position can be located in Chicago, IL or Denver CO
