What you’ll be doing...

You’ll have a broad range of responsibility over the physical data center site, the people that work in and support that site, and the compute infrastructure assets housed within that site. The data center is a large complex facility with a value of more than $150M and houses compute and facilities infrastructure valued in excess of $350M. The center processes transactions that yield billions of dollars in revenue for Verizon. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the 7x24 operation of the building, the equipment and the people. Any disruptions or failure of these facilities to operate can have catastrophic and business threatening results.

  • Caring and maintenance for critical facility infrastructure.
  • Being the custodian for millions of dollars worth of IT assets.
  • Physical security associated with DC building and raised floor areas
  • Floor space planning and designing to ensure most efficient utilization of DC infrastructure resources.
  • Cross functional planning and design to ensure most efficient implementation of IT infrastructure (Network, Storage, etc.).
  • Assessing new and potential future technology for implications to data center design and operations.
  • Enabling business agility via expedient physical implementation of new IT hardware & infrastructure solutions.
  • Problem/Incident response.
  • Asset management.
  • Change management.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four years of experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Experience as a technical lead in an Operations environment.
  • Knowledge of Verizon systems and applications located and supported in the data center.
  • Understanding of systems and applications that process in the facilities (billing, ordering, finance, provisioning, trouble, payroll, hr, external commercial applications, etc.).
  • Knowledge of the layout and structure of the physical datacenter buildings and the facilities infrastructure (Generators, switchgear, uninterrupted powers supplies, battery banks, building controls and automations systems, chiller plant, security systems, power distribution).
  • Understanding of computer room hardware (mainframes, servers, storage devices, network switches, structured cabling for power and network).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead others (formally or informally) toward a common objective.
  • Ability to effectively engage/interact with all levels within the organization.
  • Project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
