What you’ll be doing...

Our people are our most valuable assets, but our equipment is pretty important too. As a Fiber/Cell Technician, you’ll be keeping our facilities and equipment in top form by maintaining several locations in your assigned area. You’ll be doing regular maintenance, keeping inventories, doing audits, and creating reports. You’ll also be analyzing our network coverage and finding ways to make it even better.

  • The Technician – Fiber is responsible for the ongoing operation and maintenance of the optical transport network, including preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, as well as the support of ongoing network improvement projects.
  • This position is responsible for the proper operation of a group of Network Elements and hundreds of milesof outside fiber plant.
  • The position regularly works with the internal and external engineering teams to ensure equipment growth projects meet expectant demands in support of the company’s objectives.
  • The fiber technician is expected to be able to perform his/her duties with little supervision, and participate in cross-functional projects as scheduled.
  • The fiber technician will diligently work to care for and improve the Verizon Wireless transport network consisting of outside and inside fiber-optic cable plant, supporting DWDM/CWDM Ethernet rings and technologies,and Ethernet facilities equipment located at cell sites,Regional MSC, & Distribution sites.
  • Responsibilities of managing onsite installation and engineering vendors during the performance of their duties, ensuring VZW standards are adhered to and documentation correctly performed within the various database tools.
  • Performing installation, optimization and maintenance of base station equipment and transmitters.
  • Preventative and remedial maintenance.
  • Site optimization including PIM/VSWR testing, 911 testing, and call testing.
  • Testing and analyzing network coverage to ensure contiguous communication and network integrity and quality.
  • Conducting building and grounds inspections and maintenance.
  • Maintaining site and test equipment inventories.
  • Analyzing network coverage to find gaps, making recommendations to improve coverage, and helping to implement those recommendations.
  • Integrating network hardware and interconnect facilities.
  • Updating daily logs with site-specific information and generating reports.
  • Performing audits when required by various departments or regulators.
  • Must be able to perform physical requirements of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation, including, but not limited to, perceiving differences in wire cable colors, moving and/or lifting items such as ladders, tools, air tanks, cable reels, test equipment and other objects weighing up to 100 pounds, working aloft; climbing ladders and poles, and entering tunnels, buildings, trenches, crawl spaces, manholes, and other confined spaces to accomplish job tasks.

You’re tech savvy, and well-versed in all things telecommunications. Working independently suits you well. You’re also thorough, vigilant, and on top of the details—someone people count on to solve problems and to make sure they don’t happen in the first place.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor'sdegree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Able to work on-call, nights, and weekends is required.
  • Able to climb and work 8 feet high on utility pole if needed.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the following technologies and/or platforms: Ethernet backhaul systems including Ethernet routers like Alcatel-Lucent 7750/7705s;DWDM/CWDM based systems, including an understanding of Fujitsu based systems and engineering measurements such as Polarization Mode Dispersion/Chromatic Dispersion, Ethernet ring provisioning, and Ethernet protection domains.
  • Knowledge of the use of OTDR, bit-error rate test sets, and fiber characterization is required.
  • Cell infrastructure experience including: Lucent/Nokia PCS/CDMA/DO and Ericsson LTE/AWS/PCS technologies.
  • Ability to learn new technology quickly and apply working knowledge of wireless engineering on new projects.
  • Intermediate training in at least 3 of the following areas: data communications, digital communications, fiber otptic networks, operating systems and applications, telecommunications, computer support, project management, and/or power.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, G-Suites, databases, and various network tools.
  • Telecom experience including: EBH, Microwave, DAS systems, CRAN/small cells, Carrier Aggregation, MRRU’s, antenna systems, Lucent/Nokia routers, and dark fiber.
  • Power experience including: GE, Emerson, Delta, DC distribution systems, and troubleshooting.
  • Voice cells infrastructure experience, such as Lucent, Motorola, Ericsson, LTE, or CDMA data.
  • Various VZ software such as RTT, SAM, IOP, Netsmart, and Workbench 360.
  • Computer support experience, including troubleshooting PC hardware and configurations.
  • Experience troubleshooting antenna systems from transmitter to antenna.
  • Expertise in PIM/VSWR/MIMO/RET including knowledge of fiber and LTE remote radio heads.
