What you’ll be doing...

The Network Strategic Planning and Modeling team is hiring a strategic thinker to join a high profile, high visibility team that powers Network analytics and strategic thinking for Verizon. You will be part of a team that builds tools, analysis, and insights that informs, quantifies, and enables the visualization of data to drive business decisions and investment for the Verizon Wireless and Wireline Networks.

We create actionable operational and strategic insights and visualizations for senior leaders in the company across multiple organizations. You will be part of the team that shapes multibillion-dollar investments for the nation’s largest Network. This is a job for an intelligent, decisive, quick, forward-thinking, strategic, and tactical thought leader. You have exceptional influencing skills and preferred experience working across areas and levels of an organization.

For this role, you will leverage your network understanding to plan, build, & run the Global Network & Technology True North Plan (TNP). The TNP is the overarching Verizon network strategy that includes all long-term technical plans, KPIs, investments, and technologies Verizon intends on implementing in our network. You will work on creating C-Suite material tying all network segments with financial plans.


Business Intelligence:

  • Lead a cross functional team to develop and communicate Verizon’s network technology strategy
  • Communicate the strategic plans and KPIs to senior leadership and respective leads across the business
  • Deliver and maintain a strategic view of network evolution and convergence plans tied to rollout of the intelligent Edge Network. This requires interactions across multiple organizations to identify and document network technology, cost requirements, and savings benefits
  • Learn / understand new technologies and how they will impact Verizon (ie: 5G, SDN, NFV, MEC)
  • Lead strategic efforts across the Network organization, leveraging advanced analytics to optimize processes and procedures that lead to improved Network KPIs, capital optimization and cost reduction
  • Create detailed scenario analyses merging strategic understanding and current program status with hypothetical program changes to understand impact of proposed changes to CapEx / OpEx spend required to support proposed changes.
  • Make business recommendations (e.g. cost-benefit, forecasting, experiment analysis) with effective presentations of findings for multiple levels of stakeholders through visual displays of quantitative information.
  • Define key success metrics and create dashboards / reports to communicate results and monitor KPIs.
  • Lead the creation of new data processes as identified through industry benchmarking and collaboration with Verizon's data scientist community.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, adapt to changing priorities and meet aggressive deadlines.

Executive Presentations:

  • Prepare executive level presentations.
  • Ability to analyze complex data sets, draw conclusions and relationships and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Effectively communicate actionable insights to category leads supporting their goals and objectives.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree or Master’s degree (e.g., MBA or any discipline of engineering, computer science, statistics, operations research, economics, mathematics, physics).
  • Three or more years of Network Planning or Engineering experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and maintain highly effective and collaborative relationships.
  • Strong communication & influencing skills; able to inspire confidence among senior leadership and set strategy for next generation product or platform development.
  • Experience in management/strategy consulting.
  • Experience in Microsoft PowerPoint & Excel.
  • High level of curiosity and investigative mind-set with an attention to detail.
  • Willingness to adapt to new challenges to overcome short-term hurdles by staying focused on the team’s deliverables.
  • Ability to learn quickly and use widely available tools and methodologies.
  • Strong project and process management skills and ability to manage multiple competing projects/priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools (Tableau, Alteryx, PowerPivot).
  • Experience working on large scale network strategy and or planning in one or more of the following areas:
    • Transport Networks: Optical, Ethernet, Cell Site backhaul, long haul transport, and submarine cables.
    • Core Data Networks: MPLS, routing/switching, IPv6, LAN/WAN architecture, firewalls, multicast, load balancing and software defined networking.
    • Voice: Switching, tandems, peering, SS7, VoIP, SIP, SBC, NNI and gateway platforms.
    • Video: VOD, video distribution router.
    • Wireless: RF planning, 5G, LTE, eNB, MME, CDMA, 3GPP, 3GPP2, RAN, PGW, VCP, MEC, CSCF, PCRF, ENUM, mobility, IMS core, SDM, CSCF, TAS, presence, RCS, transcoding and SMS, eNSE, RAN planning, SON.
    • Computing: Blade servers, ATCA, virtualization, databases, capacity planning and performance testing.
    • Knowledge of Data Center and/or Central Office infrastructure, UPS, cooling and space/power planning.
    • Core planning Computing: SDN, NFV / Virtualization, databases, capacity planning and performance testing.
