What you’ll be doing...

Our success depends on the quality of our network. As such we have high expectations for our systems. In this role you’ll be using drive data and trouble ticket reports to spot problem areas and recommend fixes. When system problems occur, or a customer reports an issue, you’ll investigate and find a resolution. Help us deliver on our promise to customers—the ability to make and maintain clear, uninterrupted connections. This position will be part of the Network team designing and optimizing the in-building and venue network to ensure densification and deployment of new technologies. As an In-building RF Engineer, you will insure that network capacity solutions are designed and optimized efficiently as per Verizon standard for both voice and data services.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Analyzing our network’s capacity and coverage, and looking for ways to make improvements.
  • Implementing various system performance improvement plans.
  • Recommending and evaluating the impact of new cells.
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting system problems.
  • Coordinating intersystem optimization.
  • End to End responsibility for Solution evaluation, design (and upgrades of existing system), commissioning and optimization for in-building projects in region including large scale venues, Campus, Enterprise/ sales client, airports, arenas and hybrid design (small cell component as part of in-building) for LTE, LAA/CBRS and 5G network.
  • Analyze capacity needs for In-building solution, select appropriate DAS architecture to support it, design, maintain and update databases, collaborate with various internal/ external disciplines throughout project life cycle.
  • Responsible for RFPs, budgetary quotes for design, tracking, attending sales, customer meeting during design and construction phase, investigating root cause for performance degradation; develop and implement short- and long-term optimization strategy for in-building systems.
  • Using system performance expertise to reduce Lost Calls, Ineffective Attempts, Failed connection attempts, Dropped Connections, RRC setup failures, RRC Drops, Context Setup Failures, and Context Drops as well as throughput and RACH optimization.
  • Optimize networks to meet contracted KPI. Directly manage Pre and post launch Optimization, Event Monitoring, and prepare /analyze testing reports, close-out packages and acceptance documentation as well as readouts to Company executives. Compile and maintain all project documentation in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Interacts with cross functional teams such as National Network Operations (NNO) groups, NRB, Planning, Maintenance Engineering, Real Estate, Transport, Territory, HQ, RF Design and other organizations to deploy and optimize components for best efficiency and reliability.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree in electrical engineering.
  • Experience in the cellular industry. Ideally, with network experience.
  • Experience with RF propagation tools and radio test equipment, like Ascm, DataPro, Spectrum Analyzers, Actix, Windcatcher, or RF Scanners.
  • Understanding of intermodulation, distortion, interference detection, and mitigation techniques.
  • Understanding of antenna characteristics or antenna system design and selection.
  • Understanding of frequency planning constraints and requirements such as C/I, co and adjacent channel criteria.
  • Understanding of LTE, VoLTE, Evdo, or CDMA.
  • Five or more years of in-building RF design and optimization work experience on both DAS & Ericsson platform.
  • Four or more years of direct relevant work experience pertaining to end to end in-building DAS deployments.
  • Previous experience with both DAS and EUTRAN (Ericsson) architecture; Hands-on experience on Tier 1 DAS vendors (Corning, JMA, CommScope) as well as EUTRAN equipment details, configuration and feature/capabilities as per project requirement.
  • Previous experience with in-building design experience for large and complex indoor environment – iBwave level II certified, III preferred. Vendor commissioning certification desirable for pre and post launch commissioning work.
  • Tools proficiency (software: Atoll, IBwave, Truecall, ENM, Zite, ELPT, Actix, Irisview, Actix, Windcatcher), (Hardware: CW test kits, Spectrum Analyzer, Walk testing kits like Falcon smart, WiND, TEMS).
  • Strong financial acumen. Able to budget, track spending projection for in-building budget.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work quickly without minimal supervision.
  • Establish and foster relationships with internal / external teams (sales, RF, strategic partnerships with big companies, municipalities, commercial landlords, campus etc).
  • Flexible to attempt alternate solutions to resolve issues and seamlessly adjust to a dynamic, changing business environment. Superior organizational time management, prioritization and project planning skills; Continual commitment to all company goals and objectives and the ability to focus the team members on those objectives.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills by communicating, verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner; applying appropriate grammar; listening attentively; presenting ideas in a logical, compelling manner in both small and large group settings; adjusting to meet the needs of the reader or listener; communicating technical information to a non-technical audience; and integrating large volumes of information from multiple sources.
  • Willingness to travel; either day trip or overnight.
