What you’ll be doing...

In this position you will support multiple tools within the SAS organization. This position will support the end to end engineering, troubleshooting, operations, and performance monitoring for tool vendors (Netscout, Teoco, Radcom, Viavi). The engineer will partner with multiple teams across Verizon to ensure customer data is being monitored by key performance indicators while providing a value to our internal customers and stakeholders. You will also support the 6V engineers and manage the vendors, by providing system & customer requirements, prioritizing tasks, and driving the vendors to provide results in a timely manner.

  • Coordinate projects with the Inventory, Facility Engineering, DSO, VCP Planning, VCP Ops teams to manage the installation, cabling/powering, tenant space, or instantiation of all new equipment/software installed in the NEC’s, VCP Core, VCP Edge and meet the network ready date.
  • Evaluate & investigate daily health checks for all systems, coordinate, support tasks with on-site contractors and ensure tool availability is >99.999% for all customers. The engineer will identify & resolve any defective equipment (RMA), software and/or VCP related outages and ensure tool stability.
  • Perform and/or lead all testing for any new enhancements, software patches, & new major releases within in the lab. You will create and validate the upgrade test plan, lead the migration into the production environment and support the end users (customers).
  • Assist with all customer support requests (not limited too): creating custom grids, workspaces, application reporting, application based alerting, packet capture ability and vendor training.
  • You, along with the PMTS, will provide forecasts to the SAS Planning & Finance teams to determine the future budget and spending plans for each deployment & vendor, identify equipment for decommissioning and/or functions that could be eliminated to reduce CAPEX/OPEX.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Three or more years of experience with fundamental packet data concepts ex. LTE & VoLTE call flow, TCP/IP and UDP, routing, basic LAN/WAN network connectivity, firewall, DNS, etc.
  • Five or more years of systems engineering, design, operations and/or system performance experience.
  • Two or more years of experience with systems engineering and design in highly-available and complex environments.
  • Two or more years of experience in reporting, performance trending and/or statistical analysis.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot issues using raw data packet captures.
  • Fluent in office automation for reporting and analysis.
  • Strong technical, analytical skills.
  • Background in supporting virtualization and cloud computing environments (ie AWS & Openstack).
  • Effective interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Strong initiative and self-starter skills with ability to build cross-functional team relationships.
  • Experience developing/maintaining support tools on LINUX platforms including shell scripting, report automation and basic web pages.
  • Experience with eHealth, IrisView, Netscout nG1, and other related performance tools preferable.
  • Experience with vendor management.
