What you’ll be doing...

Verizon’s Content Strategy, Programming & Acquisition team is responsible for leading robust content strategies and acquiring premium, digital and multiplatform video programming across all new and established Verizon product lines as well as new and emerging O&O media platforms and growth areas. Reporting to the VP of Content, the Head of Content Strategy, Programming and Acquisition for Gaming and 5G will be a strategic leadership role and will be responsible for leading Verizon’s gaming content-driven acquisitions and initiatives for the content team that relate to 5G, including VR, AR, MR and other new content formats and applications.

Key areas of of responsibility will include (i) developing and implementing Verizon’s gaming and 5G content strategy, (ii) leading Verizon’s gaming and 5G content acquisition activities, (iii) identifying, structuring and executing on strategic partnerships and/or joint ventures, (iv) leading management of Verizon’s gaming and 5G content relationships with current and potential future content providers, (v) managing and facilitating the professional development of the gaming and 5G team, and (vi) partnering with all internal matrix groups across Finance, Marketing and Product teams to execute on Verizon’s overall gaming, 5G and content strategy.

Lead, Develop and Implement Verizon’s Gaming and 5G Content Acquisition Strategy:

  • Lead and implement Verizon’s gaming/5G acquisition strategy taking into account all relevant data
  • Benchmark content to create and lead a strategy / tactical plan for Verizon’s gaming/5G content offerings.
  • Analyze existing performance/subscription data, competitive benchmarks and external market metrics to drive improvements in Verizon’s gaming/5G acquisition strategy.
  • Drive regular financial and KPI performance tracking on account activity and report to the senior executive team.

Lead Verizon’s Gaming and 5G Content Acquisition Activities:

  • Develop and document acquisition plans, financial metrics and goals for senior executive management.
  • Develop and utilize non-traditional and other customized approaches to content development and acquisition.
  • Design and implement Verizon’s gaming and 5G content acquisition financial return and deal models.
  • Negotiate all agreements with content providers to secure content for Verizon’s gaming and 5G strategy.

Lead, Identify, Structure and Execute on Strategic Partnerships and Joint Ventures:

  • Identify and source new content opportunities and partnerships with various types of content creators.
  • Develop opportunities for joint ventures to further Verizon’s reach in the gaming and AR/VR/MR worlds.
  • Lead and/or participate in negotiations for the structuring of new joint ventures, strategic partnerships

Lead Management of Verizon’s Gaming and AR//VR/MR Relationships with Current and Potential Future Content Providers:

  • Build and manage relationships with CEOs and heads of studios/networks.
  • Own, develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in the linear and digital content community in relevant segments (agents, managers, brands, creators, reps, etc.).
  • Work closely with relevant content providers to maximize the performance of content on the service.
  • Drive improvement in all operational aspects of Verizon’s relationship with content suppliers
    in relevant areas.

Manage and Facilitate the Professional Development of the Individuals on the Content Team:

  • Build and manage a team focused on Gaming/5G Content Strategy and Acquisition
  • Provide development opportunities for members of the gaming/5G content team in both academic and real-world settings.
  • Facilitate an environment that encourages teamwork, cooperation and open lines of communication.
  • Motivate the gaming/5G content team to deliver exceptional results.
  • Deliver regular feedback on each member of the gaming/5G content team’s performance.

Partner with Other Verizon Groups to Facilitate the Development and Execution Verizon’s Gaming and 5G Strategy:

  • Coordinate Verizon’s content acquisition activities with various other Verizon business units.
  • Be a partner for finance and legal teams covering gaming, 5G and other content acquisition activities.
  • Encourage the sharing of ideas and expertise across business units to break down silos and support one Verizon.

Key Competencies:

  • Deep understanding of a dynamic multi-platform content market (including both acquisition and distribution business models, the technological underpinnings of digital content distribution platforms, and a knowledge of market trends and dynamics).
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience in negotiating content distribution, syndication, original programming, content development, licensing and programming agreements.
  • Ability to develop and deploy systems and processes as related to content acquisition and partner management.
  • Solution-oriented approach to problem solving, and flexible, with ability to shift priorities as needed.
  • Comfort reviewing, dissecting, digesting, questioning and drawing conclusions from various data sets.
  • Experience managing a team.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and cross functionally as part of a larger team.

What we’re looking for...

Qualifications:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 15+ years of experience in a senior leadership role focused on high volume account management, licensing or business development.
  • Experience in a high-volume account management, licensing or business development role.
  • Proven ability negotiating content acquisition, brand or talent agreements in high-pressure environments with tight deadlines.
  • A track record of success in partnerships, talent management or partner management.
  • Strong management and organization skills and the ability to be effective in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Strong critical thinking and data analysis skills.
  • Strong working relationships with content providers. Develop and maintain good relationships with content partners and the industry at large, representing the company as an industry leader.
  • Passionate about entertainment and gaming/5G content. Knowledge and enthusiasm of digital video landscape, linear landscape, including solid understanding of digital video distribution, digital/broadcast influencers and major content creators/providers as well as competitive landscape including existing linear and new emerging digital platform content offerings.
  • Evaluate and aggregate video programming, channels and brands from a variety of sources.
  • Understand market dynamics, customer trends and the competitive landscape.
  • Anticipate risks and drive risk management with cross-functional team.
  • Proven ability in negotiating complex license or business development agreements in high pressure environments.
