What you’ll be doing...

Verizon Cloud Services and Platform Engineering is looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer to help shape and deliver on a strategy to build broad use of Amazon's utility computing core web services. Your broad responsibilities will include: owning the technical engagement and ultimate success around specific implementation projects; defining implementation architectures, developing a deep expertise in the AWS technologies as well as broad know-how around how applications and services are constructed using the AWS platform; and being a subject matter expert on security as it relates to customer applications and services.

As the Senior Cloud Architect/ Engineer, you would be expected to:

  • Lead and define Cloud Architecture & Migration for large enterprise programs and application transformation. You will provide technical and solutions leadership in delivering scalable Cloud architectural solutions.
  • Collaborating with Security, Governance, Network, Cloud engineering groups, and development leads to implement solutions across various lines of businesses.
  • Design and coordinate projects of significant size and complexity. Designs must adhere to Enterprise level technology standards being both technically sound and efficiently supportable.
  • Provide expert hand-on troubleshooting and technical support of systems for cloud platform
  • Technical liaison between customers, service engineering & support teams.
  • Creating, building, documenting, educating, training cloud architectures for our Verizon wide dev teams.
  • Articulating the problem statement and openly bringing up challenges/roadblocks and impediments, negotiating, influencing and driving solutions.
  • Provide effective leadership, development, coaching and guidance to application team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills: Ability to communicate effectively with end-users, business owners, developers, managers, and systems engineers. Strong coordination and organization skills.
  • Strong commitment to customer service and service enablement. Ability to multitask and prioritize work requirements aligned with senior leadership direction.
  • Deep-dive technical discussions around design and an intellectual curiosity to always keep your technical skills current while maintaining a pulse on industry trends.
  • Author or contribute to AWS customer-facing publications such as whitepapers, tutorials, etc.
  • Self-starter and be able to drive end to end process and solution leadership to successfully complete large network programs on time with well managed scopes, and costs.
  • Concentrate on forming and steering the transformation initiatives of the organization.
  • Ability to recognize opportunities to improve processes and invoke positive change.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment and developing flexible solutions to meet evolving requirements.

What we’re looking for...

You will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • Ten or more years of software development, design architecture and/ or implementation experience.
  • Five or more years of experience in Cloud Computing, Networking; Infrastructure, and Database architecture.
  • Five or more years of experience with DevOps tools (Jira, BitBucket, Confluence, Jenkins, Ansible) & CI/ CD automation
  • Five or more years of experience in designing and developing automation frameworks.
  • Migrating Complex projects from on-prem to Cloud, including Web/ Apps tiers as well as DB transformation.
  • Implemented Enterprise Security remediation process in Cloud.
  • AWS Professional Solution Architect Certification, OR AWS Associate Developer Certification, OR AWS Associate SYSOPS Certification.
  • Review AWS Services and investigate if these services meet Verizon Security policies or not.
  • Designing, managing, and maintaining tools to automate operational processes, backups, ensuring AWS service offerings provide highly available services.
  • Knowledge of Code Deploy, CloudFormation, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, DMS, DynamoDB, ECS, EFS, Elasticsearch, Elasticache, IAM, KMS, Lambda Functions, Lex, ML, RDS, Redshift, S3, Secrets Manager, SNS, SQS, SSM, and Step Function and AI are plus.
  • Experience in security best practices and use of security groups and incident response.
  • Experience in Encryption at Rest and In-Transit Encryption. Knowledge of SSL Cert setup in AWS.
  • Tokenization experience would be plus.
  • Experience in design for high availability and Disaster Recovery for data resiliency.
  • Support automating test scenarios for unit, functional, integration and acceptance testing.
  • Implemented AMI Rehydration automation.
  • Experience in Jenkins job as file/ Jenkins seeds jobs concept, Ansible Playbook for configuring the cloud environment and deploying middleware and application packages.
  • Hands-on AWS technical design and build experience, including automation, CICD tooling etc.
  • Python and Java developing experience is highly desired.
  • Splunk and ELK logging experience. Familiar with the DataDog, DynaTrace, or New Relic monitoring
  • Experience in migrating Oracle or MS SQL to AWS Aurora PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with database replication, DB backup, DB restores functions.
  • Knowledge of networking such as: DNS services, TCP, load-balancers, routing, firewalls, route53 to be leveraged for designs and troubleshooting.
  • Implementing and managing continuous delivery systems and methodologies on AWS.
  • Implementing automated security controls, governance processes, and compliance validation processes within AWS environment.
  • Implementing systems that are highly available, scalable, and self-healing on the AWS platform.
  • Experience leading or developing high quality, enterprise scale software products using a structured system development lifecycle.
