What you’ll be doing...

You’ll help us take care of our greatest asset—our people—by helping them stay well. Our goal is to care for the whole employee with our great benefits and wellness programs. Sometimes benefits can be hard to navigate, but you’ll be the one to make it easier. You’ll be working with vendors and colleagues, not only to manage the programs, but also make what we offer even better.

  • Making sure our wellness programs are running smoothly.
  • Helping others understand everything our benefits programs offer.
  • Using employee feedback to understand changing needs and develop new offerings.
  • Managing relationships with service providers.
  • Ensuring compliance with our process and standards.
  • Managing vendor relationships, employee interactions, data reviews, payroll requests and audits, benefits and wellness partnerships, interactions with HR stakeholders, interactions with business leaders, and disability vendors.
  • Identifying, addressing, resolving, and effectively managing short-term disability, long-term disability, Family and Medical Leave Act, and various leaves of absence processes and policies.
  • Monitoring vendor administration to ensure accuracy and consistency of Verizon’s disability and leave processes, vendor operations as outlined in respective contracts, vendor plan design and performance guarantees.
  • Executing on absence, disability, and leave related company initiatives.
  • Consulting regularly with HR stakeholders on escalated issues to minimize company exposure and liability.
  • Consulting with HR Business Partners and the EEOC team on any changes and updates relevant to employment laws to ensure fair and consistent treatment for all employees.
  • Researching issues and driving toward quick resolution in order to minimize absenteeism.
  • Planning and executing work by taking ownership of employee issues while working autonomously.
  • Partnering with field and HR to identify and improve upon consistent challenge areas that may indicate deficiencies in administration processes, and/or disability plan design.
  • Reviewing individual situations on a daily basis, discussing solutions and influencing decisions with all levels of management and Legal.
  • Training, educating, and supporting HR on disability and leave administration processes.
  • Searching for process improvements by independently partnering with many different groups within and outside of the business.
  • Partnering with internal organizations to authorize employment actions related to benefit claim decisions.
  • Supports HR Business Partners and field clients by providing guidance and information in relation to absence policies, processes and systems.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Ability to balance good business sense along with relevance to various key factors such as, labor contracts, local practices, federal and state statutes.
  • Proven ability to successfully work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with disability or benefit plan interpretation.
  • Strong written and verbal presentation skills.
  • Ability to interact and influence all levels of management through superior customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state employment laws, most importantly ERISA, STD, ADA and FMLA.
  • Seven or more years of relevant work experience in benefits or the medical field (i.e. LPN).
  • Experience designing and delivering content.
  • Experience with HRIS, PeopleSoft, Data Analytics, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the CBAs and bargained for plan documents that provide uniform treatment for associates.
  • Fluent in medical diagnostic and treatment vernacular.
