What you’ll be doing...

Verizon’s Supply Chain Services team is transforming the Global Strategic Sourcing Group and seeks dynamic professionals who are interested in joining our Networks team. Verizon seeks a professional with strong drafting, negotiation and contract management experience in areas such as product sourcing, network equipment and infrastructure, IT, software licensing, installation and maintenance support services, etc.

The Contract Manager (CM) position is responsible for contract development and management of all contractual documents, working in partnership with the Sourcing Specialist, suppliers, internal business and legal departments to negotiate and develop robust legal and commercial terms and conditions with Verizon’s suppliers. The CM acts as an advisor and expert for contract related issues and must apply critical thinking skills and work independently to make sound business decisions on behalf of the Company, actively progressing contracts to a timely execution. Day to day work of the CM requires significant interpretation of diverse contractual issues as well as the ability to identify any potential legal, operational and commercial risks which the business needs to consider prior to the execution of the Agreement. The role also requires oversight of the approval process for high value deals, ongoing contract management and issue resolution as needed after contract execution. The CM works closely with internal audit teams and supplier's auditors to resolve contract compliance issues.

Contract Development:

  • In accordance with Verizon's priorities, review internal business client and supplier requests for changes to the terms and conditions of contracts, assess the commercial and operational impact and risks associated with implementing the proposed changes, and recommend Verizon's response based on the foregoing.
  • Provide leadership in drafting and negotiating terms & conditions with suppliers.
  • Act as the liaison between the Sourcing Specialist, business partner(s), Legal and suppliers and managing version control of documents and coordinating stakeholder responses to ad hoc queries.
  • Secure Legal approval (as required) of response and negotiate resolution with supplier.
  • Work collaboratively with the Sourcing Specialist to ensure that all contract document templates are properly prepared for Request for Proposal (RFPs).
  • Resolve and respond to contractual related supplier issues and/or questions.
  • Meet with Legal attorneys to clarify and negotiate complex sourcing contractual issues and or other Supplier concerns.
  • Interpret contractual rights and obligations to business partner and Sourcing Specialist.

Contract Compliance:

  • Ensure current Verizon standard contract terms/language is incorporated into all contracts.
  • Manage supplier dispute resolution through formal or informal dispute resolution channels.
  • Review, interpret and apply Sourcing and Corporate Policy requirements.
  • Be responsible for consultation and escalation to senior management of current and potential issues.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in contract management.

Even better if you have:

  • Legal qualification.
  • Juris Doctorate, Master’s, or equivalent advanced law degree.
  • Strong interpersonal and client-service skills.
  • Capability to be a self-starter with ability to work independently and make decisions to progress work.
  • Strong oral and drafting skills.
  • Strong issue resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent deliverables in a very dynamic and variable environment where business assumptions fluctuate frequently.
  • Strong understanding of procurement contract clauses and principles.
  • Certifications from the National Contract Management Association:
    • Certified Federal Contracts Manager (CFCM).
    • Certified Commercial Contracts Manager (CCCM).
    • Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM).
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute.
    • Lean Six Sigma experience and/or certification.
