What you’ll be doing...

As the Associate Director (“AD”), this role is a highly visible member of the team and is responsible for the identification, measurement, and management of risk confronting the organization. The candidate will work closely with the Leadership Team to develop and implement an effective compliance program to establish, implement, monitor, and report on the effectiveness of appropriate risk, control and compliance frameworks.

The AD works closely with various branches and departments in identifying, defining and remediating risk-related issues. The AD is responsible for management and escalation across operational, regulatory, strategic, reputational, financial, and fraud risk areas. This position serves as the primary resource for establishing standards and procedures to ensure compliance with all internal policies and applicable industry laws and regulations.

The AD will be the liaison between the Verizon Business Group go-to-market business units and the compliance organization. Responsibilities include oversight of design, development and management of a compliance communication process and cadence to bring awareness to cross BU risks. The AD will need to excel in a highly matrixed environment and partner with senior leadership in the CISO, Legal, Sales, Service, Finance and Audit stakeholder groups.

  • Leads, develops and motivates a team of Sr. Managers and teams, which normally consists of 3-5 employees.
  • Defines objectives for the teams and oversees priorities for utilizing resources.
  • Directs all aspects of the Risk Management & Compliance function for multiple business units across the Verizon Business Go to Market teams.
  • Directs Sr. Manager teams in the prevention, control and mitigation of potential and actual risk.
  • Provides guidance to business partners relating to the development of controls for critical business processes to mitigate compliance/operational risk.
  • Identifies and assesses all major risks related to business operations, contracts, operations and strategy.
  • Informs and educates the Executive Leadership Team on compliance, risk management and control policies, procedures, and frameworks.
  • Leverages Archer and other risk management tools, practices, and policies to analyze and report enterprise risks, and to manage risks according to an enterprise risk management framework.
  • Ensures the organization is compliant with applicable laws, regulations and internal policies and procedures.
  • Designs, develops, and implements policies, procedures, and ongoing assessment methodologies to drive the organization towards continuous awareness of and compliance.
  • Acts as an independent internal reviewer, ensuring that compliance issues/concerns are being evaluated appropriately, investigated and resolved.
  • Creates sound internal controls and monitor adherence to them.
  • Proactively audits processes, practices and documents to identify weaknesses.
  • Maintains and publishes status for all projects in progress.
  • Oversees independent reviews to evaluate emerging risks and control weaknesses identified in compliance activities.
  • Engages key stakeholders to help support business unit initiatives.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree or Master’s degree – ideally MBA OR Advanced degree.
  • Strong persuasion skills, the ability to work effectively at the most senior levels of the organization and display highly effective networking and influencing skills.
  • Ability to influence business leaders on all compliance risk-related matters affecting the business. The individual should have the ability to independently challenge, when needed, while at the same time being supportive and solution-based.
  • Ability to navigate and negotiate through conflicting demands to maintain focus on priority objectives while ensuring key stakeholders’ needs are met.
  • Ability to lead groups, build consensus, and communicate effectively with all levels of personnel within and outside the organization.
