What you’ll be doing...

  • Develops and implements Verizon's local and state legislative strategy, external affairs and community engagement programs in support of company goals and positions across all business units enterprise-wide with a focus on issues involving technology deployment.
  • Represents Verizon and influencing policy makers.
  • Accountable for strengthening Verizon’s political impact, brand and reputation using extensive government and advocacy experience and network.
  • Supports Verizon state legal, regulatory and government affairs team to influence decisions that may impact local initiatives.
  • Identifies and influences proposed local and state legislative activities.
  • Plans and executes strategies to ensure that any local legislation has a positive or neutral impact on the company.
  • Interacts with local community organizations and other third-party community influencers.
  • Keeps management informed of pending local legislation.
  • Serves as primary strategic liaison accountable for outreach to company affiliations, special business and third-party groups.
  • Provides team direction on communicating key messages and strategic initiatives to stakeholders.
  • Plans and develops strategic messaging.
  • Represents Verizon in a variety of forums including providing testimony at committee meetings/hearings that address legislation impacting Verizon.
  • Compiles competitive intelligence.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in advocacy/issues management and coalition-building.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50%; travel within territory.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as necessary.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Current network of contacts with local government officials and community organizations.
  • Five or more years of external experience in public affairs, public policy, lobbying, external affairs or other local/community focused disciplines.
  • Highest level of personal integrity.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and legislative processes at the local and state level.
  • Experience in the development, management and advocacy of telecommunications policies and positions.
  • Knowledge of Verizon operations and business functions.
  • Knowledge about economic regulation in the technology communications, cable, and utilities industries.
  • Strong communications skills, both verbal and written and ability to communicate effectively with business units across the company as well as with third parties.
