What you’ll be doing...

As a Network Engineer-III in the Cary Network Management Center you will provide surveillance/maintenance and DevOps support for Verizon’s Global Transport (Layer 0, 1 and 2) networks.

  • Vendors and technology may include Coriant, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Ciena/Nortel and Fujitsu SONET, Ethernet, DWDM, ULH, MESH, VSAT and Digital Cross-Connect technology for both domestic and international facilities.
  • This function is carried out through alarm monitoring, outage management, processing trouble tickets, maintenance scheduling and providing technical assistance to Field Operations on the repair of global transport platforms.
  • The function is also responsible for monitoring the implementation of transport network change control activities and performs pre/post technology checks.
  • Applicant must be willing to work rotating 7x24 hour shifts.
  • Provides technical and/or analytical support to one or more departments or work units with limited supervision; aids in the successful completion of projects within a product or functional area.
  • Performs a variety of activities (may be technical in nature) in support of the functional processes, programs and/or services.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have.

  • Associate's degree or two or more years of work experience.

  • Two or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Experience working in a 24x7 Network Operations Center including working in a shift work environment.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in telecommunications, computer science, or other telecom related discipline.

  • Strong interpersonal, writing and problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrated ability to provide timely and accurate network information to both management and other organizations during network events and major, critical and catastrophic outages.

  • Demonstrated ability to work under stressful, fast paced conditions while multitasking.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a teamwork environment but also independently as needed.
