What you’ll be doing...

You’ll be working on site for one of our most important national accounts, maintaining the voice and data network they rely on to stay up and running.   • Troubleshooting network issues in a 24x7 environment.
  • Documenting customer incidents and resolutions.
  • Providing onsite support in weather-related emergencies, like blizzards or hurricanes.
  • Supporting other customer locations as needed.

You will be responsible for the installation, monitoring, testing and maintenance of telecommunications and associated electronic equipment and wiring per specifications and operational procedures, both in technical facilities as well as on customer property. This will include preventative maintenance routines. This role performs testing and diagnostic procedures on equipment according to published equipment standards.

  • Performing fiber locates as needed, monitoring of construction activity, fiber splicing for installations and restoration and can utilize and OTDR.
  • Assembling, installing, and/or testing transmission equipment, channel service units (CSU), digital service units (DSU), modems, routers, etc.
  • Installation of routers, multiplexers, etc.
  • Completing periodic maintenance on company transmissions support equipment.
  • Maintaining new and existing circuits through troubleshooting and fault isolation techniques; utilizing remote test systems to isolate and resolve customer circuit outages.
  • Coordinating the testing and turn up of service with all involved providers until the customer’s service is up and working.
  • Supporting multiple Verizon sites including Long Distance REGENs, Local On Net Buildings, equipment in collocations such as Level 3, and transport equipment at the SHE-2 FIOS location.
  • Maintaining ULH & SONET Optical transport systems, DXC & M13 equipment.
  • Performing I&M of multiple circuit types, including T1 through OC192, Ethernet & Gig-E Dispatches to customer premise locations for I&M all standard & Ethernet CPE, and VSAT equipment.
  • Some work is outdoors, must be willing to perform in seasonal weather/changing conditions.
  • Maintaining network and customers supported out of the Bloomington, IL area to include Champaign, IL and backup Springfield, IL as needed.
  • Performing related outside plant work to include fiber restoration.
  • Deploying back-up power generators at remote sites.
  • Performing preventive maintenance on all network transport & power equipment.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, on-call rotations, weekends, and holidays as needed to meet support and project requirements.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or one or more years of work experience.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, nights (12am to 4am) and weekends,
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Customer facing skillset, will be going on premise to customer locations.
  • Experience with configuring and troubleshooting Cisco switches and routers.
  • Familiarity with fiber optic transmission equipment.
  • Fiber restoration capabilities.
  • Familiarity with DC power plant.
  • Experience with Avaya voice and data network systems.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office. Ideally, PowerPoint or Visio.
  • Working knowledge of wireless access points or ups.
