The Technical Manager is a multi-disciplined technologist. He / She will be a hands-on engineering leader with deep coding skills, DevOps/SDLC platform and tooling, as well as Cloud Platform technologies. This person is a continuous learner that is passionate about teaching, mentoring, and coaching others on improving how we build technology. This role will work closely with teams to transform the way they work, leveraging Agile, DevOps, and Cloud principles and practices. The individual will be required to have experience across multiple technologies and applications and directly impact the Public Cloud and DevOps transformation across Verizon.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or related field or equivalent combination of education and professional experience

  • Passionate technologists with 7-10 years of professional experience and a strong foundation in application development and Infrastructure management.

  • Develop customized solutions and identify SaaS and PaaS solutions compatible with our various platforms; to support critical business functions, and meet project objectives, internal client business requirements and company goals

  • Expert proficiency with cloud-based infrastructure-as-a-service platforms: AWS, Google Compute Engine, Azure, OpenStack, etc…

  • Expert proficiency with configuration management and automation tools such as: Chef, Puppet, and Ansible

  • In-depth knowledge of programming for Windows and Linux operating systems and platforms using development tools

  • Experience architecting technical solutions for complex problems and delivering them to technical and non-technical audiences

  • Ability to become a trusted advisor by building and managing relationships with clients, colleagues, vendors, and other industry professionals

  • Knowledgeable of technical concepts like enterprise architecture, service-oriented architecture, virtualization, servers, databases, hardware, network, firewalls, security, PaaS, IaaS, SaaS, phone systems and configuration systems

  • Strong vendor management and partner relationship skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to convey technical concepts and technologies to senior leaders and store managers

  • Expert proficiency in Scripting and programming languages(.NET, Java, NodeJs, Python), Monitoring tools(Newrelic, splunk), Container technology(Docker, Kubernetes) and Database technologies(Oracle, MSSQL, MYSQL, Postgresql)

  • Should have solid experience in migrating tools and Apps to AWS adhering to cloud native principles.

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations

  • Deploy and utilize service management and automation tools to minimize human operational requirements.

  • Build best-in-class solutions for the overall monitoring, alerting, management and escalation of all technology services enabling self-service and autonomous product domain teams

  • Management of operations engineers and IT staff including goal setting, performance management, coaching, mentoring and development planning.

  • Assess internal and external technology capabilities focusing on suitability for integration with existing IT operations and systems.

  • Actively represent our culture by leading and participating in efforts around continuous learning, personal and professional development, community service and team building
  • Strong communication and influencing skills

  • Ability to roll up your sleeves and implement alongside the other engineers being coached and developed
