What you’ll be doing...

Verizon is transforming the Global Strategic Sourcing Group and seeks dynamic Sourcing Professionals who are interested in joining our team. This Category Senior Manager will drive the sourcing process for Verizon’s New Product and Technology teams, playing a leading role in supporting Verizon's innovation, revenue generation, and cost-savings business goals. The scope includes ownership of Sourcing actives for Software Development, Application Service Hosting, Data & IP Licensing, and Internet Services. These services support all of the product verticals in Verizon’s broad portfolio, including IoT, Smart Cities, Security Services, Video Platform, and Mobile Application Development.

This position will manage a team of Senior Consultants, also known as Category Sourcing Experts (CSEs). This is a leadership-focused role, requiring active management of multiple time-sensitive requests, proactive communication with all levels of management, and consistent compliance with Verizon policies and goals. A key aspect of the Senior Manager role is building collaborative relationships with the Product Development team to enable strategic supplier engagement and rationalization in coordination with Verizon’s Product Roadmap. This is also a working manager role – the manager will negotiate and complete certain key strategic deals themselves.

  • Drives all aspects of complex strategic sourcing processes including but not limited to taking lead on contract negotiations of business and pricing terms and conditions, conducting research and providing benchmark data on pricing and/or other key terms and conditions, facilitating RFP’s, and working with the internal business partners to develop negotiations strategies, objectives and plans.
  • Leads various Cross Functional Teams (CFTs) to develop Verizon’s requirements and to reach consensus on supplier selections. This includes drafting necessary language to translate business needs into specific requirements for contract-related documents, e.g. Statements of Work (SOW), Letters of Authorization (LOAs), Requests for Proposals (RFPs), etc. This also includes leading the CFT to reach consensus, meet milestones and complete contracting by business partner required dates.
  • Provides direction, leadership and professional development to their team of Category Sourcing Experts. Balances workload appropriately across their team. Ensures Category Sourcing Experts responsibilities and job roles are aligned with the Contract Management team.
  • Manages supplier relationships, effectively maintaining positive and ethical working relationships.
  • Supplier rationalization – leverages existing supplier base to appropriately consolidate services. Partners with the business to eliminate maverick spend.
  • Stays current with business trends, specifically in the areas of technology and software development as well as Sourcing Best Practices and methodologies.
  • Earns the business partner’s respect and serves as a Trusted Advisor.
  • Plans and proposes sourcing strategies that best support the business.
  • Collaborates closely with key business partners to understand their priorities and challenges; assesses their needs on an ongoing basis; and manages their expectations.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant Strategic Sourcing, Product Development or IT experience (technical or project management).
  • Knowledge of Strategic Sourcing processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience developing, communicating, and implementing Sourcing Category Strategies.
  • Experience in data analysis & supplier assessment.

Even better if you have:

  • A Bachelor's degree
  • A Master's degree.
  • Familiarity with competitive bids and RFPs as well as direct negotiations including business, price and technical terms.
  • Six or more years of experience managing teams.
  • Project Management experience in a complex multi-project and multi-geography environment.
  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or Project Management Professional (PMP).
  • Strong interpersonal and client service skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience in influencing others
  • Demonstrated experience developing creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Self-motivated /self-starter with ability to work independently.
