What you’ll be doing...

Verizon is looking for a talented, dynamic, technology transactions lawyer to be part of a fast-moving, collaborative global legal team. You will primarily be responsible for advising Australian government and enterprise sales clients on large and sophisticated commercial opportunities. You will also provide holistic legal support and advice on non-sales related contractual matters, supply arrangements, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, marketing activities, employment and property law matters.

The lawyer is expected to perform a variety of functions including:

  • Advising enterprise and government sales teams concerning legal and commercial matters arising from customer and consultant-driven procurement opportunities.
  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating complex contracts, including service and supply agreements, statements of work and ancillary legal documents.
  • Ensuring that all transactions are legally and ethically sound and comply with all Verizon policies and practices and all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Providing advice and guidance on regulatory compliance including telecommunications licensing, data protection and privacy matters.
  • Collaborating with other in-house counsel and business functions in the United States, Europe and Latin America to work on issues related to Verizon’s activities in Australia and the wider Asia region.

What we’re looking for...

We are looking for an outstanding lawyer with initiative and drive who can handle varied and complex legal work, primarily drafting and negotiating technology transactions from the RFP stage through to completion of final agreement. The lawyer must have experience negotiating with medium-to-large size enterprises and/ or governments. The lawyer will work closely with sales clients, finance, regulatory, solutions/engineering, and global customer service teams to synthesize complex issues and drive consensus positions across functional areas. The lawyer must be an individual who embraces, demonstrates and promotes ethics, integrity and professionalism.

You'll need to have:

  • A Law degree with
  • A current Australian legal practising certificate
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience, including at least two years’ experience drafting and negotiating technology service agreements (i.e., law firm, government, or in-house corporate legal department)

Even better if you have:

  • Ability and maturity to balance business goals against legal, business, policy and reputational risks, and the judgment to make reasoned decisions in relation to risk treatment.
  • Well-honed project management and organisational skills to closely manage multiple transactions and complex projects.
  • Ability to interact effectively with personnel in various roles and levels across the organisation, and enforce legal requirements.
  • Ability to work across multiple stakeholder teams and drive consensus positions.
  • Proven ability to spot problems and develop and lead implementation of creative solutions.
  • Capability to be a self-starter who takes initiative to develop, lead, and implement projects.
  • Strong written and oral communication, business judgment, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Experience with data security and privacy requirements.
  • Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of G Suite (Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Mail, etc.), and the ability to learn and work in Verizon contracting and workflow reporting systems.
