The Risk Management Organization

Risk Management – Captive Team

The Manager Captive Operations – Finance and Accounting will report to the Director – Captive Operations and will have overall responsibility for the accounting and financial management of four Captive insurance companies with $2.5B in annual revenue and $2.0B in assets. The position will be responsible for the preparation of financial statements in conjunction with the captive management firm. This position requires excellent financial and interpersonal skills to address regulatory, tax and accounting issues and to achieve satisfactory resolution through the Verizon tax department, the captive managers and internal and external auditors. The incumbent will participate in and may lead ad hoc projects with significant financial impacts.

  • Prepare monthly and annual audited financial statements.
  • Manage internal and external auditors, captive managers, actuaries, commercial banking relationships and regulatory relationships.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on insurance accounting, Sarbanes Oxley, and other emerging corporate governance issues as they relate to captives.
  • Coordinate the captive’s participation in multiple affiliated insurance programs and third party insurance programs.
  • Track insurance program profitability, reviewing cessions and actuarial data
  • Maximize loans and dividends to the parent company
  • Maintain financial ratios to ensure compliance with regulatory and internal targets
  • Coordinate and perform claim audits
  • Monitor internal controls and perform Sarbanes Oxley controls testing
  • Evaluate processes for efficiencies and use of digital finance tools.
  • Coordinate all board meetings, all regulatory filings and regulatory audits
  • Provide support to or lead special projects

What we’re looking for...

Must have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 6+ years of accounting / finance experience or the equivalent
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Strong social interaction skills
  • Excellent presentation skills; comfortable with presenting to executives

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • CPA Certification, ARM, or CPCU
  • 6+ years of insurance industry experience
  • Prior knowledge working with captive insurance companies
  • Experience implementing and using digital finance tools
  • Master's in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics or equivalent preferred
  • Broad-based knowledge of Verizon accounting policies and procedures
